Some dehumidifiers have an in built Ionizers....which throw out negative Ions, (negative electrical charges) airborn particles such as odour and dust are attracted to these by an effect similar to that of static electricity, they then become heavy and precipitate (fall), in turn killing any odour.

They don't work that well in my experience, I tried one in a Drying cupboard, while it did help to keep the air dry, the smell was still very much noticable.
