I've done that with the gum strips when a didn't have a twisty tie.
twisty ties work better IMHO, plus a lot less work. not as pretty though.
I could indeed start a crazy joint thread. there's a few of them that'd be pretty cool.

not buying the subscription for a bit either...so. unless I win the POTW and get a month subscription again, it'll be a while before the joint thread can be made. although...what happens to the pictures you upload when the subscription is no longer valid?
