Yes you see and hear that a lot, and thats because most of the busts you see or hear are commercial operations that require guns to protect, and of course those are illegal guns.

Even a legal gun some times is classified as illegal if: owner had no carrying permit and he was carrying it, or an expired permit which is the most common case.
There are states that even have a rule on how many rounds you can have.

Lots of people don't seem to take serious the rules and regulations of their permits.
Most permits don't allow you to cross state lines and yet many drive across state lines with loaded guns cause they think they're legal.
They're not, as soon as you cross that line or bridge, you're carrying a conceal illegal weapon.
In NY they slap you with 20 for that.
