I've tried them before and never had good luck with the peat pellets. For one, if the RH stays to high around them, they will mold in just a few days.
Their ability to hold moisture can over come their ability to hold Dissolved Oxygen
When they dry up to much, damage can happen to the root system

Some on here have had good luck with them, others (like me) have not.

Just go get a 12pk of solo cups, burn a hole in the bottom of each one about 3/8 diameter (I use a lit cig to burn the drain holes) and fill them with soil. Give the soil a good watering, then take a mechanical pencil or a pen and plung a hole into the soil as deep as the beveled edge. I used to use a sharpened pencil and would stick it in up to the paint. Drop a seed in and pinch the soil back over top of it. Place under light and wait 3 -5 days for the sprouts to show up.
I like this method as there is no handling of sprouted seeds or of fresh tap root. And no chance of breaking the tap root when pushing the soil around the seedling.
To each is own. typically all of mine sprout but a few times they have not. We'll say its 95% effective here tho...
