i dont know what kind of system you are running. but i saw rubbermaid and just assumed you are running a dwc.

the worms way res is like, 90 bucks and only 20 gallons larger. not to mention shipping and the notorious worms way curse. also it has no lid on it, which i assume would be a problem with algae and all that. *EDIT* apparently it comes with a lid as pesci stated, i just didnt see it pictured.

50 gallon rubbermaids are only 15 bucks or so. locally available and about bomb proof. if you want to get rid of the bulging, just wrap a couple wraps of duct tape around it when its empty. just one or two bands a couple times around will be all you need to shore that thing up.

if you want to recirculate between the two, with a waterfall that would be bad ass. just make sure the crossover tube on the bottom can handle the flow of the pump...or you may overflow one tub by pumping the other dry.

Harbor Freight has good "pond pumps" all the popular sizes from 300-1500gph. the 300gph is about 20 bucks the 550 is 30. these are the EXACT same pump as the ECO brand pumps, except the box is different, the cord is 15' long and they come with all kinds of neat fittings....including flow control valve to dial in pump flow rate.

if you want to connect two tubs and recirc use at least two 3/4 ebb n flow fittings interconnected with 3/4 poly tube {the soft black stuff from the hydro store} also available at lowes/homedepot for 8 bucks/25' only in 1/2" though.

the best bulkhead ive found to connect two tubs together is the shower drain fittings for shower pans. you cut a 4" hole {harbor freight hole saw set 4.99 {3/4"-5"} the fittings come with gaskets you just screw them together and connect with 2" pvc. you will never outflow these with a pond pump!!! {a little aquarium sealant on the gaskets adds peace of mind}
