I definitely would check with a scope. Could be several things..some that I would guess at... basically I am not sure.
Maybe its over heat/to close to lights, bugs or got brushed against something..or????
FYI there are small tiny snails out there...donno if they eat herb, but I would not be surprised if they do.
I'd try and examine with a scope as much as possible without bothering my girls.
