Can't get Lowryder 2 to grow | | The last weekend of May, I germinated 5 lowryder seeds. Actually, only 4 germinated. I took all four plants and put them in Jiffy pellets. After the first set of true leaves began to grow (just a few days later), I planted two outside and put 2 inside in a grow box with 2 15-watt LEDs and 1 32-watt CFL.
It's now been nearly 3 weeks, and the plants simply aren't growing.
Outdoors I planted them in my vegetable garden. They get nearly full sun. They are in a mix of peat moss, compost, and good potting soil. We had a decent amount of rain the first two weeks and I've been watering them when needed since the rain tapered off. The rest of the plants in my garden are doing great, including tomato, pepper, squash, sunflower, herbs, eggplant, okra, etc. Now, when I say "aren't growing" I mean this: yes, a couple extra sets of small leaves have grown, but by and large the plants are still about 2" tall. I have not fertilized other than one application of a weak solution of root stimulant and superthrive about a week ago. They look nothing like the pics I've seen online.
Indoors, about a week ago I transplanted to jiffy pots with some decent soil. I've watered with a very weak solution of root stimulant and some superthrive. Several times I have given the plants a short vacation under a 400 watt MH unit that I have. I can't use it all the time for stealth reasons. The plants indoors look no better and possibly worse than the plants outside.
It's been very hot outside - over 90 every day.
Inside, the temp is usually in the upper 80's.
I've grown before and never had this problem. I'm skeptical that I'm going to get anything off of any of the plants. I have two seeds left that I haven't tried to germinate and if I try, I'm wondering what approach to take to have better luck.
What could the problem be? The seeds seemed a bit on the immature side, but I expected more. This is the first time I've grown anything other than bag seed, and needless to say I'm disappointed. I'll try to post some pics, but it's hard to do this on the sly with my son hanging around and neighbors on all sides.
Advice? Sorry but I don't know the PH of my water, but that shouldn't matter as I usually water with rainwater collected in a rainbarrel. |
