As for the slugs, copper and/or slug bait work well.
I've had problems with both as well. I mix my own spray for the insecticide. I use neem and pyrethrin soap.

I've found some pics of leaves eated by various insects and critters on
this page and I think you could be right.
More, you said that you're experiencing some slug & snails problems too.... this is a situation I really know well because it's very similiar to mine... probably we have similiar settings in our gardens
The only concern is that I have never seen one of those bugs on my plant
when you said that they are clearly visible jumping from leaf to leaf..... I'll investigate further in the next days
just a quick question: is there a time in the day they prefer to eat and jump along? ie. in the morning, or in the evening or........
