It doesn't use UV-C. It uses the same uv that would come from any standard light bulb you would have in your home. It's not the uv that kills the odor it is the titanium dioxide (which is proven to kill odors). However, you're right too ... I guess you can always find good and bad in every product. I personally have nothing but great things to state since using it. I also found another company online
