While on the surface this seems good I am slowly coming around to the position that decriminalization is a bad idea:

1) The message that is being given out is that smoking mj is still a bad thing, just a less bad thing

2) It does nothing to address the fact that criminals will still be the main suppliers

3) It does nothing to address the rather dangerous and seedy conditions under which much the the stuff being sold and purchased

4) It sends a message to kids that our society's position on weed is much like the old Army idea of "Don't tell, don't know" (or however it used to be written) concerning gays. IOW - we are against it, it is bad, and we will still punish you if we catch you.. just less harshly than we did before.

My idea is simple - keep it illegal to buy and sell (except in authorized compassion clubs/clinics) but allow anyone to grow for their own personal use (and their friends of course!).
