Well I have an air pump that has 4 outlets, so I guess my air pimp makes more noise than is necesccary, 'cause I only have 2 buckets running, which means I have 2 air units pumping air out into the atmosphere, which makes bit of a noise.
Kinda "hissing" noise of the escaping unused air jets.

Not exactly loud, just annoying, as it is running in the dining room.

But it's just the noise of the aqaurium air pump, which can be far removed from the plants if u wish, just by using extra long tubing to carry the air to the buckets.

As for the buckets, I have them outside, and I haven't even looked at them from the aspect of how much noise they themsevles make, but I think its very quite actually, just a very gentle soothing sort of bubles noise.

I'd consider it quite, but it just depends on how qute u need.

I am the father of our house, and I am not concerned about it, as it is no way near loud enough that the neighbours would hear it, even if I where living in a unit/flat,or what u might call apartment.
And being dad, I have no concerns over what any family members say.

But it's just the same volume as running a small fish tank is all.
It would depend on how many air pumps u want to run, ie. buckets u want to grow in.

I used to keep fish, and one thing to watch is that some air pumps won't pump down very far. The deeper the water, the more the atmospheric pressure, it doesn't matter if we are talking about 2 feet deep, and 6 feet long, or 2 feet deep, and as round as a bucket, it's still 2 feet deep.

Having said thet, the taller 25 litre {5gal} buckets are about 18 inches deep, and nearly all aquarium pumps are built to reach that depth/atmosphere.

But if u are going to use something any higher/deeper than 18 inches u will neeed more expensive air pumps.

That's all rather irrevevant, and nothing to worry about, as i think nearly any 5 gal bucket will be under the 18 inches mentioned.

I have simply over complicated the whole affair because it is 4 A.M here, and my baby has me awake, watching re runs of some dumb kids movie.

It's extremely simple, extraordinarily efficient, and what I would describe as quite, unless U are trying to hide it from someone within the house.

In which case, just start a small fish tank, and buy an air pump that has more outlets than the fish tank needs, and then run one of the air tubes off to a secret locaton.

If you buy a good air pump, u might be able to "split" the air line with splitters u get from aquarium shops, and run several, or at least two fom each air outlet.

But remember that these plants live on the amount of air circulation they get, and any reduction in air line size, is what air pressure they get.
And the air splitters can half the diamitre of the airline, sort of a chain is as strong as it's weekest link kinda policy.

But there I go complicating it agian, just too damn tired, and Ihave to drive nearly 2 hours in a couple hours time, to have an MRI done on my back, so I better stop raveing on.

The short answer is "NO" it's not noisy, unless it's someone within the house u are worried about, but then as I say,just start a fish tank up with some cheapo gold fish in it, the sort that cant be killed, and there's ya cover.
