As far as this system, we've moved on to a new one:

As for tilting it, our original design had done that - then we realized that when the hole is on the bottom of the tube there's no need - water can't build up b/c it immediately drains out of one end.
So the short of it is that you can lay it perfectly flat.
If you're building a system like this I would try to get some 3/4" grommets for where the 1/2" pvc goes into the caps. If you use grommets you should solve our leaking problems (or if you use plumbers pvc epoxy putty before putting it in and running it - once you get it wet, good luck fixing drips).
