You can definately grow large plants with aeroponics. I think it's a reasonable idea to use individual buckets for plants over 4ft., but you can reinforce a tub if you're afraid of the top collapsing under the weight (this is prolly better).
As for the roots, they almost always grow down to the solution, and this doesn't seem to hurt them (they actually seem to like it), as they still get o2 from the upper parts of the roots.
If you don't like the idea of your roots soaking, you can modify your setup to put your nutes and pump in a different container and hook it up to you spray/plant tub as per before, and then put a drain tube from the bottom of the spray/plant tub to the nute/pump tub. Then all you have to to is put the nute tub 3-6 inches below the plant/spray tub and push those roots away from the drain tube every now and then. Too much trouble? (prolly) |
