First of all, it would help to read the Grow Guide if you haven't already. It should point you in the right direction of the simple basics (planters, nutes, etc.)
To grow 2-3 plants, a 250watt HPS (High Pressure Sodium) will give you enough light in your given area (about 4,500 Lumens per sq. ft.) to grow efficient buds to satisfy your itch. As for pots and everything else....your just gonna have to take it one step at a time.
All in all, I do like your comment on "quality not quanity". That is a very positive attitude to walk into a grow room with! After all, isn't that what really matters?
