Could someone please donate me their invaluable advice? Or just help?

I started off a few seedlings about a month ago which I topped! I did not have enouhg bases for the pots at the time (or even enough pots - using 2l coke bottles with holes cut in base). So my problem is this, the bottle was sitting in another plant pot without holes in the bottom (ceramic) and it was bigger than the bottle.

The was a gap between the base of the pot and the container holding it, and so the roots grew out of the bottle and into the container below! I didn't realy want to cut the roots as there quite a lot down there
So I thought I'll try and do a DWC in mu bucket / bin. Its all set up but I'm worried that the soil will get too wet and cause root rot! The mix is 4:1:1 compost, perlite, vermiculite. Is it best to keep the bottom of the pot out of the water and to just let the roots get wet?? I have a small pump which is bubbling air to the roots (about 11 gallons an hour - all I can afford at the moment!)

I gues it's way too late to try and transfer it from soil to clay pebbles as its about 8" high!

Any help greatly appreciated! Cheers!
