lab rat x has given you some good advice, I just have acouple of things to contribute here,
You can grow a plant to 8 foot high in an eeroponics unit, thats the beauty of DWC and the ike, there is no problems with the roots becoming rootbound provided you have sufficient container as the nutes are always present to the roots.
Ideally though you will want to keep them manageable, depending on how much light you have in the room this will dictate your ideal height for maximum canopy penetration.
I use the guide that a 400watt lamp over a 3x 3 foot area will penetrate around 5 inches, a 600 watt will penetrate around 6.5 inches and so on. Lesser wattages will obviously offer lesser penetration meaning that the more watts the biger you can grow them and still harvest viable, resinous buds.
As lab rat has mentioed, you can build your own system fairly cheaply and easily, its a great educational exercize as you glean the workings of the system first hand, and any bugs that come with it. Home depot is a god source for supplies also.
