I have a thousand watt hps light about 15 inches away from the plant. The light was twelve inches away up until the last couple of days, the reason being I have just put some ak clones in there that I have just transplanted to cups so I wanted the light a bit further away. I am pretty sure it was not the light being to close.

Try moving the light away to 3 feet and see if that helps....
