I did this post a while back about this subject...

Quote:
EC value X 10 gives the CF value
CF value X 65(conversion factor of 6.5) gives TDS value
So on my EC meter a reading of 2.0(EC) X 10(for CF value) X 68(Conversion Factor of 6.8) = 1360 ppm
but using the different convertion factor 2.0 X 10 X 50(conversion factor 5.0) = 1000 ppm.

These are some of the convertion factors out there, you can see the diference it can make using one meter or another...

1 ms/cm (EC 0.1 or CF 10) = 500 ppm
1 ms/cm (EC 0.1 or CF 10) = 640 ppm
1 ms/cm (EC 0.1 or CF 10) = 680 ppm (mine)
1 ms/cm (EC 0.1 or CF 10) = 700 ppm

At least my meter will give me a low ppm compared to a conversion factor of 5.0. I know I´ll be on the low side.

I really wanna start using EC but since I had to learn about this later on I´m right now stuck on ppms... but I´m flicking my meter to EC more ofter now to start getting a hang of it.

hope this helps.
My meter is a Milwaukee SM802, it is the only meter of this brand that uses the 6.8 convertion factor.
