| Reputation,Titles, Promotions, Avatars, and Other Perqs | | - There are always a lot of questions by new members as to how the tier system and other perquisites work. I'm going to try to define them all here in this post. Tier System or Point System; a Tutorial ***Point Scale*** The following is the tier system: Under 10 reputation points = Sprout 10+ reputation points = Seedling 20+ reputation points = Novice Gardener 50+ points + 100+ posts + 30+ days registered = Junior Gardener 100+ points + 250+ posts + 60+ days registered = Gardener 250+ points + 500+ posts + 90+ days registered = Senior Gardener 400+ points + 1,000+ posts + 180+ days registered = Master Gardener 600+ points + 2000+ posts + 240+ days registered = Grand Master Gardener 800+ points + 4000+ posts + 365+ days registered = Ultimate Gardener 0+ posts + 0+ days registered = Avatar access. Master Gardeners on up can pick a custom title. (Non-offensive, within reason), and they will be able to enter and post in the exclusive Secret Garden. ***What is reputation?*** Reputation is a way to give/receive kudos to/from your peers: fellow growers, administration and moderators. It is designed to reward helpful information and/or advice. It takes a combination of time registered to the site, posting count, and reputation to advance within the tier system. The reputation that you have earned is displayed by total count in your user control panel at he top-right of your latest reputation received list, which is underneath your subscribed threads list (example below). You will see the last ten times or so you earned points, for which post you got them, the date and time you got them, and maybe a comment. More about that below. To the left of all this is a dot. Could be green could be grey. More about that below as well. The benefit of reputation is that it allows the new members to have a way to evaluate who we are and the value of the information we are giving them. Having a higher title by our name, and more green dots by our post count differentiate us from the noob with no experience. Not to say that the noob shouldn't be believed, but if there is a big difference in advice given, reputation is a tool to determine validity of said advice. Remember, your rep and your title are just a way to keep score. We're all doing our best for that warm fuzzy feeling it gives us to help our fellow growers. ***How to give reputation (points)*** There is a button top right on the post that you are reading. It is to the right of the number of the post, and left of the triangle warning sign. It looks like a scale It’s right here: Float your cursor over it and you will see this yellowish box which reads: add to ‘users’ reputation. Click on this button and a window pops up inviting you to give rep. It looks like this: This could be sent empty and the rep would be anonymous. Just push the button that says Compliment buzzmobile with friendly reputation. (I chose buzz ‘cause he needs the points!) You could fill in a prop, and send it anonymously as well: You can use keystrokes to put in smilies if desired. Keystroke definitions for smilies provided on smiley page; to the right of the smiley i.e. = : lol : (no spaces between colons and letters) You may sign your name (or not). Note: smilies may not be put into rep dialog boxes by clicking on the smiley as you would on a normal post. Won’t work…. use keystrokes : nono : (no spaces between colons and letters) ***How much rep can I give?*** When you're a newbie, you can give rep but it will appear as a gray dot in the receiver's rep list. The gray dot has no value other than the receiver being flattered that he received it. (and he/she will) Quote: |

Since you have one dot, your giving power is one point.(changed to two) The amount of rep you have and are able give is based on this: At 100 posts and 20 points it is worth two points reputation given: For every 1000 posts, you receive one point giving power. For every 182 days registered, one point giving power. For every 3300 points earned, one point giving power. ***How often can I give rep?*** You can give rep as often as you like however, You must give rep to at least 10 other people before you can give it to the same person again.
