Has anyone tried the Aerojet offered by Hydro King? Thinking 'bout purchasing one...afraid of root clogging and sluggish growth. Im using a 400w w/ a grow area of about 4'x4'. Hydro has worked well, but am stoked 'bout results from aero...? Peazzzze

Aeroponics is a method of hydroponics developed in Israel. It utilizes sprayers which spray nutrient solution over the roots, aerating the solution. The roots hang from a mesh pot filled with clay balls or lava rocks, or rockwool, anything to grab onto. they hang in to a tube (on the ones I've seen) that is filled with little misters. The roots then get a mist of nutrient solution all the time.

bennies from aero?
permalink

Results are reported to be impressive w/ aero...using the fine droplets sprayed on roots in a darken chamber will give pleanty of 02 and nutrient mix, however it seems to be a fragile coexistence. If I were computer literate enough I would post a link to the system I am looking into. I have considered scratch building an aero system, but again am afraid of it being to fragile with minimal room for error. The bubbler strip idea is somewhat appealing but i am not convinced that you could produce enough 02 for sustained growth, I havent tried myself and some folks seem to be hip on it. I also saw an add for a fogger that litterally looks like a humidifier supplying nutrients, so I wonder if thats feasible? Always pushing the envelope....any suggestions would be mucho apprerciated...oh oh 420!!SLippy!

Hey slippy,

I use a system veyr much like what you are not convinced about, and it works great. I have a tupperware bin as my reservoir (not clear, black if possible). In it I set my pots, each with many holes all over it (mesh is best). the pots have lava rocks in them with the clones in a rockwool cube. Just like transplanting in to soil, but use lava rocks (rinse them first). Then I fill the tub with nutrient solution up to a filling point (usually an inch or so below the top of the pots). I have a couple 12" long air stones in the bottom of the tub, hooked to an aquarium air pump. Then I cover the setup, to make sure no light hits the water, and turn on the bubbles! They provide more oxygen than the water can dissolve, so there isn't a lack of oxygen. Whenever the water level drops about 1.5-2" I top it off with 0.25-0.5 strength nutrient solution, to make sure I don't overfertilize. Then every 10 days or so, I pump out the water and replace with fresh nutrient solution, that way I don't run into pH problems, and get all the leftover salts out of there.
I find this system to work great, and be hardly any work, since I only have to fill the thing up and change the water. Good luck.

p.s. - how are things in the mountain time zone?

Sounds cool......are you using the SOG method? Im thinking of doing a sixer using SOG and aero...making a floro greening up room below the big 'uns.......plus a sleepy place for your mother clone. It could be the ultimate home gardners answer...a 400W sungrow for the main area..I like 400's they are a very good balance between power/suspicious and cheap to operate.....plus they seem to grow an ammount just right for your own schmooooze......Id like to see someone come up with a no-brainer groovy grower for the masses!!If it's good 'nuff for NASA it's good 'nuff fer me!!!!wonder if your nutrient mix would work for a SOG grow pattern?

Lightbulb Buying vs. Making Aero Kits...
permalink

The best way to go is to buy a rubbermaid container, some 1/2" PVC, some jet misters, and a small pond pump w/ a filter, all which can be found at Home Depot, for under $100. I bought the $500 AeroJet system, and realized it was as simple as what as I just described, but with custom molded parts that are expensive and not neccessary. I made a system using a 525 gallon pond pump ($60), an irrigation filter ($10), a rubbermaid bucket ($5), 10' of PVC ($2) and 6 misters ($5) for four plants, but bigger Rubbermaids could hold more pots, with the same basic materials but more misters, PVC, etc. It's really easy.

My 2 Cents
permalink

Just like to add my 2 cents on growing aero. First of all I have never grown with any other method, so I cant really compare it with other methods. I can just give you my experience. I cant figure out why people think growing Aero is so hard. IMO I dont think it can really get any easier. Here's my setup. I have an aero unit that holds 9 plants under a 400w hps. I also have a small closet with a 175w mh and a small Aero cloner. I also keep a mother plant in there for clones. Plants grow so fast in Aero that there is really no such thing as a veg stage. I take clones off the mother plant, put them in the Aero cloner, and when they have a good set of roots I take them out of the Aero cloner and put them in my big unit. Ill give you an example of how fast the plants can grow. Right now my plants are just over 5 weeks old and are almost 3 feet tall. These plants were also topped once at the 2nd node. By the way I didnt take these from clones, I started a new strain from seed. Thats right from seed. The only upkeep I have, is everyday I check the p.h. and the tds. Usually the only time I have to adjust the P.H. is after I change the nutes, Which I do every 2 weeks. I hope this takes some of the fear out of growing Aero. I wish I could get everyone to start grownig Aero. At least I would have something to compare mine too.

or round the clock? Or just misting during the light cycle and off for the dark cycle?
