sprayer timing
permalink

i've read several different things on what is a good cycle, i've mainly read either 1 on 5 off, and i've also read that a couple hours on couple hours off is good...now, is hours on and off good or just acceptable? where 1/5 is better?

now the next question, if 1/5 is better where can i find a short cycle timer or a timer that will provide me with a 1/5 schedule 24/7 for less than $75? i've been reading about people using some timex timer from lowes, but i've been to three different lowes and can't find one...does anyone know where i can find a short cycle timer in the greatter seattle area?!

much more of this and i make my own!!!

I would run the spray jets 24/7 without a timer, for maximum dissolved O2

Yes but 24/7 will cause roots to become yellow then brown....
Does any one else have a good timing cycle that keeps roots nice a white?

1 hr on & 1 Hr off using a regular heavy duty timer from lowes. Just get the one with the most on/off setting you can find. I paied like $20 i think for mine and works great.

Running 24/7 I think will heat upp the nutes too much cause im using a big pump for max PSI. My roots are always healthy and white.

excellent, thanks guys...one more question...

right where the stem enters the rockwool on 3 out of 5 of my plants the stem is browning, i'm hoping its due to overwatering because thats already a recognized problem

can anyone confirm or deny?

If heat from the pump is an issue, I'd make a bigger res, or change the pump to an extertnal model.

If I was to go to the trouble to make an aero unit, I'd want the advantages of aero 24/7

St0ney, that powerhead in your aerospring pics, is that the thing that heats up the res? it looks like a maxijet? does a maxijet realy cause heat issues in aero I've got an MP1200 in a 50L res and I still need a heater.

Back to NFT for me then

On any sprayhead system if your pump runs 24/7 your roots will turn yellow. So Hydro Sam how can you suggest running 24/7 if you dont have a fogger? This doesnt make sence, unless you have something other than sprayhead, ohh and if the roots never touch water....

I really think Stoney has the best idea, 1 Hour on 1 Hour off, Unless the roots are small. My cuttings were fine on 24/7 untill the roots started to grow long enough to touch the water runoff (or be submerged in water), So i thhink you just have to play with it, mine are set right now for 15 on 15 off

The picture you must be looking at must be old..lol I have a 650 GPH Rio Pump on a dual manifold running 8 spray heads. I had no problem at all with the little powerhead heating anything up but this Rio sure does..lol Also the pump is a bit noisy when it's on ( a humming) so the 1hr on/ 1 hr off works well to keep it quiet 1/2 the day. the temp rise wasent too much but more then i wanted to mess with.. For me it works well.

It's all a personal choice as to what you choose. I'm sure we can all go on about how good this is or that is just like the lighting debate. The trick to gowing good bud is finding what works best for you and you situation. For me 1/1 works good for hydro it's 24/7 for you it might me 2/2 Find what works best for you and stick with it.
