GFK breeding

Pollinated a grapefruit kush clone 4 weeks into flowering with an unknown strong indica dominant male. The male was very stinky, very short, and had a very thick and flat stem with pronounced "ridges".

There's a female from the same batch of seeds as the male waiting to be flowered. (sort of guess the male's genetic background)

GFK is B.C. Kush X Grapefruit
It's sativa looking during vegetative, but has a quick 55-60 day flowering time and an indica-esq leaf to calyx ratio. Not too smelly even during flowering, none during veg, and definately has grapefruit qualities to it's smell with a hint of bubblegum when flowering. Near impossible to clone, and vigor sucks. self-bushes itself and topples over. I bet it would be an ideal strain for screen of green.

More updates as the seeds develope!

Nice looking male! That's a real nice amount of pollen. I will be interested to see the outcome of this project.

here's a closeup of the GFK recipient 2 weeks after pollination. They're forming a lot faster than I thought they would! I wonder how long it will be until they've matured? Getting pretty excited here

Looking very good so far

4 -6 weeks is the usual time for full maturation

You are right on schedule

aprox 4 weeks after pollination

they are looking pretty close to being finished!

a couple seeds literally popped out on to the ground when i, well... picked at them a little (and it took me a long time to find them too)

the entire plant minus the top cola was pollinated, and i even spotted one or two seeds on the top cola, but all in all it stayed pollen free. the rest of the plant is just seed clusters sorrounded by a little bit of bud i'm guessing i'll get 100 seeds, maybe more? i can't count them all on the plant it's like counting stars

the seeds are starting to tiger stripe, and the two that popped out and fell on the ground are tiger striped too. I gave both a slight squeeze and they didn't pop, but still have a slight green tinge. I'm not sure if they are supposed to dry before trying to germinate them, but they are in a paper-towel currently

If these two germinate, should I harvest the whole plant? or is it best to wait until all of the seeds look matured? some of them look tannish, but no tiger striping.

got a little carried away with the pictures, but i'm excited
the first picture is an overview of the plant that was pollinated. the strain grows like a ground shrub anyway, but especially since the branches are so heavy

I would wait ...

... at least a week. Maybe even two ... you don't want to see that green-ish color on your finished seeds.

In nature, the plant sheds itself of the seeds late in the season ... or the seeds fall to the ground with the rest of the foliage come autumn. Outdoors ... the plant holds onto the seeds as long as possible. So ... no harm done if you give them that last little bit of time to harden up their shells and store nutrients for their journey ahead

Still looking textbook though Nicely done

With your objective of making new seeds, I would let this one mature a few more weeks.

You could harvest the unseeded cola, and that would open up the lower seeded buds to more light.

will do maven and mark!

I chopped the main cola this morning, the trichs were half amber too. looking at it closer, theres more seeds in it than i thought. (i underestimated the potency of pollen)

seeds is my goal, so i'll wait a week or two more. My only concern is running out of :mj:, getting pretty low here and the pollinated plant is farthest along flowering, she would be ready for harvest if it weren't for the seeds needing more time

if the trichs are half amber right now, what do you guys think the smoke be like in a week or two?

in my experience, in 2 weeks, about 20%-50% of the seeds are ready, it doesnt really matter if the shell is green, just that the seed is firm.

but the more mature the seed, the better.

in 4 weeks, most of the seeds are ready, about 10%-20% unviable, 10-20% green but viable.

this is strain dependant, in some cases in 4 weeks, all seeds might be ready.

6 weeks, yeah, should have a 100% (As far as that goes)

check a few seeds, if they look good, you might as well harvest now, if you pollinated the shit out of that plant, you should have a ton anyway. 10-20% unviable out of 100 or more? not a big deal. unless that plant is tiny, you should have enough.

even a lollipop size bud, pollinated, can have 10-20 seeds. talking real lollipop size here.
