After reading countless posts, I am still uncertain about how long it takes for a male plant to produce enough pollen to pollenate the female. Here is my prediciment, I am about a month and a half(24/0) into growing(first time grow) and I have 6 plants. One of the plants is showing definate female. Two of the other plants, I think, might be male it is sure looking like it. I haven't switched to 12/12 yet because I don't have alternating nodes. I was just wondering if I could keep the ones I believe to be male around to make sure that I haven't given an improper diagnosis as to their sex. I was just concerned that if they are male they will pollenate the female. Is it okay to keep the plants I think are male around to take into the 12/12 to make sure, without them getting all excited and shooting their loads on my women? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. -Philosopher

There will be a period when you see clearly that it is male, but no sacs have opened yet- that's the time to move it away from the female or cut the individual male flowers off. You can get pollen on your fingers when you do this, so a good wash is in order before you see the girls again. This belongs in the Breeding Forum ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Most males will produce viable pollen within 2 weeks of beginning the 12/12 cycle, the initial emergence of pollen producing sacks may be slight and small. The first 'to go' are usually the smallest and low yielders, the big full sacks of pollen usually rupture around week 3 or 4 of flowering.
