perfect plant, but male. breed?
permalink

intro to botany has taught me that when you get a perfect plant, it's usually because that plant has some kind of trait that's perfect for my growing conditions. i have 6 plants, all of them have their imperfections and a few dead/discolored leaves except this one, but it's a male.
would it be smart to breed it with my best female? or should i concentrate on more immediate goals? (bud)

obtaining seeds from a quality seedbank is not an issue, i was just wondering if it would be better to breed plants that i know can survive my conditions

use it for your second time around. you can pollenate just one female bud and let the rest become sensemilla like normal. that way, you get tons of seeds but still tons of good bud.

there are techniques to doing this, search around. you will need to cover the pollenated bud somehow so it doesnt spread to your other buds.

Id say breed it. Maybe you just got lucky with that one plant, but there's only one way to find out...

If you like the strain and want to make seeds then keep it if not cut it. (your answer is the answer here)

never hurts to toy around with breeding since you dont need to commit your entire area to seed production

Normally I don't breed- I don't have the facilities, time or inclination. But I do notice that some plants just do very well in my conditions, never get bugs, and are easy keepers all around. I have begun breeding a very few of these varieties just for fun and to educate myself with hands on breeding experience. I am by no means in a position to do real breeding with the quantity of plants necessary, but in time I hope to come up with a South Florida variety with great pest resistance.

It's fun and educational- why not?
Because keeping mature males around causes a whole new set of problems, that's why
I already had one crop get partially seeded because I made mistakes handling pollen.

Just keep that in mind, and go for it!

What I usually do is after i find the male I want i take a clone from it and do a lil topping to get it bushy and do it all in a 2-3 gal pot by the time it flowers out.
I will force the small male to flower out but manually putting it in a closet or somewhere ark for the dark period while the females are veggin,I mean it is still a small plant then after the male flowers and I collect the pollen and start flowering the females.

then pollinate a clone of the female that is entirely for seeds. Then you can keep her in with the rest of he sensi without fear of pollination. just pollinate her away from teh others and mist her off after about 30min post-pollination, I keep her small as well since I dont need millions of seeds just hundreds
I mean i am not into full scale breeding by any means for producing seeds but it works great and I have like NO extra space so keeping the male and female small still get me what I want
