crossing and female seeds from hermie pollen
permalink

hello
i have a few questions regarding Soma's pollen collecting in HT recent issue..........
as i understand it he harvests the buds and then collects the male 'bananas' and then uses the pollen to create crosses and female seeds....i havent actually read the article and wondered if applying the pollen to females would simply be the same as the male pollen collected in other threads........
anyways, i have been collecting the female pollen from hermies of a few different strains......1 that i like and want to make seeds from......i have som going now, a WW-cross that is, and intend to pollenate with the WW hermie pollen ive collected to have the genetics in my 'pantry'......

another interesting thing: ive been scoring dome black domina lately and i absolutely love it.....heavy couchlock and chesty coughs......well i found a couple pale seeds in the buds and thought, 'i wonder if this plant hermied and maybe theyll be some male flowers...'.........so i carefully broke up each bud and sure enough i collected about 15 of the little beauties......i love BD and have wanted a clone or even resort to ordering some.....but now with the p-ollen and the WW i like i thionk i can create a wicked cross..........a WWxBD.....which i may again cross with the BD pollen and get a (WWxBD) x BD.....an so on and so on.....

anyways, all u genticists etc please give me your thoughts..........i canhardly wait to finish up this crop with some good female seeds for next crop!!!!

thanks
jimmi

another quick question:
does anyone know how long the pollen will be good for?
.....the male flowers are still sealed and were collected from dried bud......(thats how soma does it).....so not sure how 'old' it is?.....im thinking that it was pretty recently harvested stuff, so maybe 4 weeks old?........and i need it to last another 3 weeks........
so 7-8weeks?..........im hoping itll last.......my first real attempt at crossing 2 strains i like intentionally and hoping it works......

i have posted similar questions to that-soma-guy himself on another 'board' but it has been down for almost 2 weeks!!!!!
this sight is still the best for sure.....fast, reliable and with informative members!!!

thanks a bunch

well after posting many questions regarding pollinating with hermi-male-pollen and not getting an adequate reply....... i decided to just wing it!

so after collecting some male bananas from the black domina bud i had maybe 20 of the little beauties......
today was about the 3rd week so it was a good time since seeds take about 5 weeks and my strains are 8-9weeks.....
i've read that some collect the pollen and then mix it with flour......i didnt do this......
i put them in the bottom of a shot glass and gently crushed and pounded them until they were a fine powder and bits of the sac (?) then...
i turned off the fan and gently rolled a paintbrush in the bottom and tapping the end to drop the bits and keep the powder......
then i rolled the paintbrush gently through select buds lower down on the plant (i want to keep the main colas relatively seed free) dipping, rolling, tapping and rolling thru hairs a few times on all the plants....the 3 bubblicious and the 1WW........i then gently misted the plant (i read this helps the pollen stick better)........
after a few minutes i turned the fan back on and cleaned the brush in the fan-breeze with my fingers to let some pollen float naurally onto a female........
the remainder i folded up into a flap of wax paper to maybe reapply later and to save for next round.......
.....well i hope it works!!!!!!! i will let u all know

concerns:
- viability of pollen
- maybe the mixing was to cut the amt of seeds? maybe cuz i didnt mix with flour i will get tonnes of seeds? not that i'd mind.......o well

anyways, thats how i did it..........ill let u know how it works

thank you, your welcome........
