Pollenating clones?
permalink

I've read a few threads where people say you can just pollenate a certain bud on a female plant will a paintbrush and only that bud will produce seeds. How good is the chance of pollenating the whole plant when doing that? I was thinking of taking female clones and pollenating those. Wouldn't that be much easier? How many seeds could a single bud produce, compared to a clone?

as long as you are careful and maybe cover the buds under the one you want to polinate with saran wrap while you are doing it then you will get the desired effect...peace

I'm not sure what you are asking, bostonblazer. Whether it is a clone or a seedling the pollination process is the same. The pollen can be applied to any and all of the receptive females. The more pistils you dust with pollen the more seeds sites to develop. The point of dusting only a few flowers is to have seeds and buds on the same plant. If you want a lot of seeds, pollinate a lot of pistils.

Hey buzz,
Basically what I was asking was, would it be more logical to pollinate a clone instead of pistils still attached to the plant. Just in case of accidental pollination of other pistils. I guess it would be pretty much the same as long as you are very careful when applying the pollen on the whole plant. It just seems easier to pollinate a clone than a single bud still attached. Whatever one finds easier I suppose.

It really isn't too hard to keep the pollen localized to just a bud or two. Turn off the fans ( ) and paint away with your brush and pollen.

And also, taking clones at this stage leads to more stresses on the plant and increases the possibility of hermie.
