I have tried it all. I've sterilized everything I use every time. I've taken everything out of the room and sprayed the room top to bottom with bleach. I've bought new trays and domes. I've scraped, I've not scraped, I've heeled and not heeled, I've used gel and not used gel. I still end up fighting a mostly losing battle and it is a race against time to see if the mold will win them all or if I can get just a few to take root. I'm thinking that, perhaps, the added trouble of air layering may just be worth the time I save from sobbing into my pillow at night. From the previous cutting I took (25), I lost exactly 25. I recently took another 20 clones several days ago, and I've already lost 4 to this horrid green, bread mold looking stuff. Somethings gotta give....ya know? HD

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Happydaisy- If you do give this technique a go would you post your outcome here? Im really interested in the time it takes for the clones to actually root. I will suggest you only try 1 cutting this go. Just incase something goes wrong you dont want 20 sick side branches on a healthy plant..

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I was having a difficult time cloning because of my work schedule. I would not be able to mist the clones enough or the grow room would get too hot during the summer months. I solved all of my problems by using the air layering. I use the starter cubes and for wrap I use the glad brand press and seal stuff. To ensure things don't come undone, I also use a twist tie at the top and bottom of the wrap. The first time I did it I left them on the plant for about 12 days. I was getting ready to scrap them because I couldn't see any roots so I cut the first one off and carefully removed the wrap. Well, I was pleasantly surprised to see that there were tons of roots (I just couldn't see them through the press and seal stuff) and I had a 100% success rate. The clones sat in the veg room 2 days and were ready for flowering. They could have gone sooner but I wanted to make sure their roots had a chance to establish in the new medium (pea gravel). What I liked about this is the clones do not need much attention. I could have injected some H2O into the wrapped sites to keep them moist but they developed roots anyway. Also, There was no need to mist, spray or put them into a dome. Finally, I have had the worst luck getting my clones of Super Silver Haze to start (picky picky) but using this method I have nice big ladies ready to go every time. I will never take cuttings again.

Ok, I set up 14 more airlayers on 21 November. I took three off on 5 Dec. that were ready and two off that weren't. The two non-rooted ones went under the cloning dome and will root. No wilt has occured on them over the past 3 days and they are bushy, 7 inch tall plants (note: they were only 4 inches long on 21 nov.). I will wait to unveil the others on 12 Dec. That would make 21 days not 12 like I said earlier (maybe I was stoned). However, It would normally take 21 days before my cuttings were ready to put into the flower room so it works out the same as taking cuttings except there really is no mortality and no special humidity requirements. Also, the clones are ready to go flower as soon as they have a root mass and they are 50% larger when they do go to flower room. I will post on the 13th to let you know how it is progressing.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Flarny, thanks alot for giving some actual rooting times on that and for taking the time to do it all. do you have the ability to take some pictures of the process? Have you ever attempted this on a top, instead of a secondary?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | OK day 21 and 99% have been cut off their moms and are resting peacefully. I have one that I have been handling a lot, while using it as a control, that hasn't rooted yet. One thing I did differently on this last batch was to get a syringe and inject a little seaweed solution into the layering sites when I could see that they were drying out. I didn't do that with the first batches and the performance was about the same. I will get som pics for ya'll soon. N D, yes it works anywhere on the plant and for this next group (started 12/10) I am attempting to get two from one stem so I will get one from the top and then one, with two mains, from the bottom of the stem. I guess what I am trying to say is that it should work at any growth node. I am also going to move my moms from soil to hydroponic method by airlayering the main "trunk" with a 3x3 rockwool cube and moving the whole mom to her new growing medium. I should also note that this technique requires some learning curve on the the actual surgery part. The first time I tried it was difficult. I cut too deeply on some and it took me a long time. Now however I can slap a layer on in about 1-2 min. and I rarely cut too deep. This is not for the novice. Info: room=46"x24"x8' (veg) 2'x5'x8' (flower) Vent=165cfm (veg) 80cfm (flower) Light= static 400W MH (veg) light rail with 400W HPS (flower) irrigation=hand (veg) Ebb and flow (flower) Medium=soil (veg) Expanded clay and gravel (flower) nutrients=pro blend veg and pro blend bloom suppliments= seaweed* and super thrive *Seaweed is key to everything! If you are not using it ESPECIALLY for cloning you are missing out.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | This is a great thread! I have been reading about this method and have wanted to give it a go. No stress to either plant is awesome! I have read though that more success with the powder then the gel. Either way the people here that have got it working have given me the push in the a.. to give it a go.

I find that comment very interesting because while I was processing my last batch of layers I made a mental note that the previous batch, using powder, seemed to root better. I will add that aspect to my data and do some testing. Flarn
