Hello propagation people, Another batch of layers came off over the holidays. 21 days is still about average for Stone Hedge and Super Silver Haze but the Bubble Gum takes about 28 days. I started an new batch on the 27th to measure gel vs powder rooting solution and I included a few with no rooting hormone as controls. We'll see in about 3 weeks. I will also try to include a photo essay at that time. Regards, Flarny ![]()

"N D, yes it works anywhere on the plant and for this next group (started 12/10) I am attempting to get two from one stem so I will get one from the top and then one, with two mains, from the bottom of the stem. I guess what I am trying to say is that it should work at any growth node." It did work. I was able to take two layers from one stem. I just spaced them so that they both had some side shoots. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Thanks again flarny, you've done a much better job at keeping this thread and style of cloning alive and well. Im still waiting for my chance to put it to use, but that may not come until after I move and get a real grow room setup. K+ for you bro!!

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Well the first layers are starting to root. They were started on 12-27-04. Oddly enough I have two ready using gel and one ready using nothing. These are the early birds so the data is incomlete but it is still interesting to note that one without hormone was part of this group and none with powder are. Still, as a man of science I will not make any assumptions as of yet. We'll all have to wait. Flarn.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | All layers taken on the 27 have finished. That makes a total time of 16 days. My time of 21 days from an earlier post might have been incorrect but I will have to double check when I do the next batch. After it is all said and done, it appears that the data is inconclusive. It doesn't make any difference weather you use gel, powder or nothing at all. In fact, one of the layers I took without any hormone was among the first to root. My next post will have photos. Check back in a couple of days. Flarn

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I get the same results rooting cuttings. with or without hormones I still get roots and the ones I used hormones will sometimes take longer to produce a tap root. The difference I have seen between the 2 is the ones with hormone seem to root stronger. In a 14 day period, both my untreated and treated cuttings were rooted. The one with hormones rooted second, but had the largest amount of roots when transplanted.

As promised, here are some photos of the process. I lost the photos of the opened layers with roots showing due to camera batteries but will have some here in a couple of days. Here are the tools you will need: Glad press and seal, Starter plugs, hormone, razor, clippers and twist ties This looks like a good candidate: Clean all of the leave and side shoots from the layering area: Cut or collar the stem at about 1/2' to 1' intervals. Cut just deep enough to remove the outer skin: Split the starter plug and wrap it around the surgury site. You may apply rooting hormone if you choose but it seems to make no difference.
