No clones yet. Just filled it up to air out the solution. You can't see it in the pic, but the fill level is easy to check by looking into any one of the holes. Make sure the solution is about 1/4-1/2 above the bottom of the cups. Maintain that level or your clones will dry out.

I use a 400PPM 3-12-12 + micros & 20ml/g h2o2 @ pH 5.8 as a rooting solution for most strains. Top off with plain (pH'ed) water and add 20ml/g h2o2 every 5 days.

Gotta give it up to Smokinrav for the CD idea. A few advantages are apparent. Reflective, good. Most importantly, I think, it keeps you from handling the cuttings too much. Just cut and drop it in the hole. I've used the 'slit' before but (clumsy me) they fall out some times.

If the roots are too big to come back through, just break the CD in half (carefully).

That's about it. My final bit is to say that it's extremely important to keep the temp and humidity controlled. Using the glass and a hygrometer, I just don't push it all the way closed (doing this would cut off the air hoses, too). About an inch gap will give me what I'm looking for as far as humidity is concerned. Check yours, it may be different because of where you live.

Raising the rubbermaid on an old milk crate is an easy way to control the solution temp. It will be whatever the air temp is (approximately). If you set it on the ground, it will be ground temp (usually too cold).

Stabilize a 75F solution and 75-85% relative humidity inside the cloner. This will produce roots quicker. Higher solution temps or lower humidity will just delay the process. If the solution is too cold, the cuttings will probably die.

Peace.

Where do you put the glass? On top of the rubber maid container like a lid or do you suspend the glass and sit the lights on top?

Nice work you mad scientist.

No I don't suspend the glass.

It sits directly on top of the rubbermaid forming a seal.

I put the light (bright side up) on top of the glass. And, a piece of aluminum foil on top of the light.

By putting the glass on top of the rubbermaid so it has a 'gap' this will lower the humidity in there to about 80 percent. You don't want to completely cover the rubbermaid because the plants need fresh air and if the humidity gets too high, the clones might die. Their root growth will definitely be stunted because they absorb too much water through the leaves.

Clones need to freak out a little to grow roots. New roots will grow if the plant is in need of water or food. For fresh cuttings, you can't take the water away or they will dry out and die. If you lower the nutes, though, they will go 'in search of food' and the budding rhizozone will grow faster.

Plain water wooks good, but you have to be on top of it. Once there are root buds, they're ready for some food.

Noise?

The pumps are the only culprit. I put them on that step stool (that sits on a carpet) to buffer the noise. It's very quiet.

I didn't say this earlier, but I wanted to add that once the root buds have shown themselves, take the glass cover off to reduce the humidity. This will spur even quicker root growth.

I just built something very similar to this with Delta's instructions. Thanks, I cannot wait to try it.
