![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Whew...Just read through almost all the stuff in here about clonal drift etc. Lou, since you seem to be the most versed in that subject, I've got a question. When most people are pheno-picking, they plant the 10 seeds they get in the pack, veg them awhile, then take a branch or two from each, flower them, and save the clones from the best performing females after harvest, for mothers. Going by what I read, that isn't really a great idea since they are taking a side branch, which will not exhibit the same characteristics as the plant that it was taken from. The only real way would be to take the top of each plant before flowering, to get an exact copy for a mother....correct? Not really sure how you could take the top of a plant, and then review its flowering performance without a top though....so how should one go about picking a pheno?

All the clones coming off the same plant regardless from where they were taking from the plant, they'll be the same pheno as the plant they came from. The best way to choose a pheno will be to take, one clone of each of the plants you have growing, put it at 12/12 harvested and smoke it. Pick the one you like, find from which plant it came from and that will be your mom. Personally what I have done the past year was, I toped the plant and threw it in to flower. After I harvested and smoked it I kept the tops corresponding to the plants that I wanted to keep. Take to consideration that by the time the main plants flower, their clones will be full grown plants ready to be moms.
