what is the best way to choose your mother plants if you're starting from scratch with seeds? harvest a crop, then reveg the best couple plants for your cuttings?

![]() ![]() ![]() | I just finished a C99 grow, and I saved four female plants for revegging for possible motherhood. They are all labeled, repotted and under 22/0 HPS. In the meantime I have dried and cured each plants offerings, and am smoking them to see which one I like the best. This was an extremely uniform grow- all the females were essentially the same. But I still refer back to my notes- like "#3 slow to sprout" and later on "aphids on #1". One plant didn't make the reveg- lost her. So now I have three to choose from. Do the clones from one plant root more easily than the others?? That's important! You have to try them out. What good is a mother if she is a finicky cloner? The answer is taking notes during the cycle and keeping for a mother the only the plant which started quicker, was less fussy about nutes, was more pest resistant, finished faster, clones easily, and had the best high. They don't have to be extensive notes but you need to keep something- we think we'll remember but we're stoners. We forget crap. Your criteria may be different- but unless you label each plant and keep written notes it's awfully hard to keep track of which plant did what.

I have 9 Dutch Passion Feminised Masterkush very strong growers and are 4 weeks old. They average 26 inches tall but I noticed 4 are a little shorter and have thicker wider leaves than the other 5 which are taller and have thinner leaves. All are now showing definite female hairs no herms at the moment. My question is which to choose for cloning (tall or short) I guess the size difference is due to being Indica or Sativa dominate please experienced grower please tell me which to choose.

![]() ![]() ![]() | If your grow space has height restrictions, that may well be one criteria that is important to you. Do you prefer a more indica high? I would grow each plant out the best I could, keep a few notes, and essentially do what I described above, plus clone each of them. Only after you harvest will you know the highs each plant has to offer you. The criteria you choose can be individual- what is important to you?
