Plans for a new Flower Room (3'3"w x 4'9"L x 8'h) **Advice needed**
permalink

I decided that I want to do away with my current flowering cab (4'w x 2'd x 6'h) and build a flowering room from scratch. I am tired of my plants being on top of each other. This way when I LST, I can spread the plants out a bit to get more light to all of the budsites . . .During the off-season when I have no plants going, I figure I can clean it up real good and convert it into a walk-in closet of some sort. That should make the girlfriend happy

I was thinking of building it out of sheetrock lined with mylar with a piece of plywood as the ceiling, but was wondering if that would be a problem? I'm figuring not, as long as I have proper ventilation . . .I have knowledge on building walls from work, so why not use that knowledge for my babies!!

Anyways, the room will be 3'3" x 4' 9" x 8'. I will run 2 HPS lights (600w + 400w) both with air-cooled hoods (hydrofarm daystar AC) and a 265cfm hydrofarm fan for exhaust. . . The only thing I haven't thought out is the intake. In my cabinets, I just use passive intake, but that's going to be kind of hard through 2 pieces of sheetrock . . .If I just put an 80cfm inline duct fan pulling fresh air from outside in, will this be enough as far as ventilation goes?

The room that I am building this in is usually about 60 - 65F all the time. . .

Any comments or ideas would be appreciated. . .I am probably going to get started within the next couple of weeks. I'll let you know how it turns out when I'm all done

**bump bump**

I was thinking of getting rid of the 400 watter and buying and air cooled 1000w HPS for this area. What do you guys think?

OR

Should I just keep the plan as a 400w and 600w?

If you’re going to use 1kw of electricity anyway,,,, I’d go with the air cooled 1kw….. You’ll get much better penetration,,, and only have to cool one light……..

Never heard of that. . .is it like some sort of strong styrofoam? Where can you get it at?

Spirit, thats waht I was thinking. . .Although I don't have any problems cooling a 400w HPS and a 250w MH in my cabinet grow right now.
I personally think things will be a little easier to cool in the new room that I build becuase it will be completely sealed air tight (except for the intake and exhaust.) With the door closed, it should pull that hot air right out through my exhaust fan. Plus, I will have the air cooled hood (which I don't have right now in my cab and temps don't get above 85F with lights on.)

I found a 1000w HPS with a Hydrofarm Daystar AC hood for $400

How much do you think I could get if I sold my used SunSystem X 400w HPS that was used for 3.5 grows (12/12 only) on ebay or something?
Paid $225 when I bought it. . .

I was smoking earlier and got VERRRY deep into thought about my new project but came across some soft spots in the idea . . .Please give me any opinions that you might have about my 265 cfm squirrel cage Hydrofarm fan as far as noise and vibration goes.

In my cabinet, there is some minor vibration on the wall directly behind the cabinet (which it is not even touching the wall)

Here's the dilemma:

I am going to be building 2 walls in a corner (to close the corner off,) using metal studs on the walls to support everything with a plywood ceiling. . . Do you think that a 265 cfm fan will cause a lot of noticeable vibration on the existing walls being that they will be the support for my 2 new walls? The fan will be on one of the walls that I put up, and I will also be insulating those walls. I just don't know if that insulation will deaden the sound of the fan through the other walls.

Anybodies would be appreciated!!
