I am in need of a dehumidifier I just want the smallest cheapest one i can get away with. I noticed two kinds, compressor and peltier...... do the peltier ones work well? is 8 ounces per day enough to lower my humidty to 40-50%? its currently at 75%+ my grow space is small its only 4x3x6.5 or 78 cubic feet. think i can get away with using something like this the price is right, but its so much less than other ones I worry about the quality of the product.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I guess my main question is if my RH is at 80% how many pints of water per day is that? all of these things are rated on how much water they remove in a 24 hour period at 86 F and 80% RH.....which are pretty much my conditions. cept they dont tell you what it will go down to.....just how much water it removes...... can anyone help me figure out how many pints i need to remove in a day to get my RH down to 40-50%? also could i hook the drain to my res and just put the water back into my system?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | i could actually just make a small one i think......its basically just some peltier plates with air going across the cold side then to the hot and then out of the unit. this causes condensation which i could have drip into a collection plate..... hmm wonder how well this would work.....maybe ill tinker some tonight i believe I have all the parts laying around......

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I'm not sure about all the calculations required to determine if the Royal Sovereign Mini Dehumidifier will do the job, but look at the price .... how can you go wrong? One thing is certain, a refrigeration type dehumidifier of the smallest size available (24 pint??) will be too large ... plus it will add too much heat to your growroom. And ... they cost close to $200! ![]() jv

the unit could be too small or just not work very well..... Im not worried about heat, i have a AC unit that works way better than i need for the cab, and I actually want the unit to heat the cab when the lights are off about 15 degrees........

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | maybe just use a heater so the AC is forced to kick on and dehumidify the air... seems counterproductive but ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | yeah seems like the wrong thing to do but i get what your saying things do have to be a certain temp for dew point and all that...... actually the more i think about it, the dehumidifier would probably be cheaper than a heater, with a heater and my AC running 24/7 my bill would be tons higher than if i ran a small dehumid....... i like the out of the box thinking though thanks!

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | oi snwboarder fellow boarder as well , but with the waves and warm water ![]() I use a regular old Maytag dehumidifier. Cost me $150, generates no noticeable heat, and the plants love it. I grow soil and don't have much ventilation in my grow room. The dehumidifaction helps there . I don't have a/c in my grow room , instead it's just the cental a/c blowing on/off throughout the day. Temps maybe around the upper 70s/low 80s with lights on. Can't tell you much more about it b/c I picked it up from Kmart a while ago... it holds 45pints and that's full if I run it for 4 hours once a day towards the end of light period on a watering day. it runs daily and has to be emptied once every 3 days if there's no waterings... max 400PSI on high mode and 100psi in low mode... hmm, does a mighty fine job in keeping room temps low when the general atmosphere wants to boil water in mid-october.. I don't drain the water it generates into my crops cuz it's just nasty... I find some weird stuff floating in it sometimes, I'll stick to what comes out of the tap ![]() Last edited by g13laze : 10-06-2007 at 10:39 PM.
