![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Yeah Bob it's duct tape folded over 3 times then nailed into the ceiling. It does look sketchy as hell and I'll probably end up switching it out for bungee cords once this grow is finished out, but I can tell you it is secured. Before I hung the blower I pulled on the tape loops to see how much weight they would take and I actually had a really difficult time getting them to rip away from the ceiling. Also, part of the weight is offsetted by the alum tape that's securing it to the PP. But yeah.. this is still a work in progress and will continue to be once I tear this down and set up a double decker area with the next grow.

Allrighty here's my third and most likely last update to this little guide. As I said this was a work in progress and I had to work out kinks as I went. For my newest grow room I again used the zipper door down the middle and velcro tape for each of the two flaps at the bottom, sealing the tops and sides with duct tape and staples. You could theoretically use all velcro tape but that stuff is expensive! I also updated the ventilation and made it a lot safer, so both I and bobbooty here can now rest easy. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() One thing I found is that hooks and chains at your local hardware store come in a nice variety of sizes and can take all sorts of weight, and best of all it all comes cheap and by the foot. Do note that if you're screwing into drywall you'll need special mounts or catches. Also for my room I ended up having to remove the ducting from the fan and the hood as a result of rising spring temps, and I added a duct fan to the passive intake. That's about it, I'm finally 100% content with this setup. Completely lightproof (standing in there during the day is a trip) and I have some excellent negative pressure going on. I may add another passive intake if we get another long heat spell but for now it's working splendidly. ![]()

![]() | Hey man, thanks for the guide, it's been helpful. One question though. I may have missed it somewhere in the thread, but didn't that closet start out with a folding door on the outside? Now it has a sliding mirror? Would this still work using a folding door outside the PP?

this is why i always use chains and hooks, and the hooks i bend shut! {you ever adjust your light just to have the chain slip of a hook and you are left there totally fucked. no way to catch the falling light, or if you do no way to catch your falling self. oh it sucks}

I'd like to do the same thing, but I'm not sure how the PP would hold up a massive fan that I would need to properly ventilate my closet. 3x4x8. I wonder if I should mount a rectangular size board, vertically along the inner side of the closet door frame, and drill a hole into that, to mount my ducting exhaust? Would having your exhaust and intake on the same side of your grow room, cause the air streams to conflict? Sucking in dirty hot air, which has been expelled from your exhaust into the intake that is also on the same side, which is along the bottom? Although you claim your door is pretty shitty, do you have any problems with hot air being circulated back into your grow area from the exhaust exit? If this would work efficiently enough, I think I may have solved my problems. Just need some "real world" feedback. Dr. Funkenstein

![]() Yeah, the reason why I used these doors so much was because I'm a renter and didn't want to do damage (and the pre-existing doors were not workable -- sliding mirrors and the like). Noise wasn't an issue for me at my last housing situation, so I didn't bother masking it really. Yes, with out ventilation piping it was rather loud, and the fan I was using was powerful (hurricane, though the exact cfm evades me at the moment). However you can use a muffler/carbon filter and hang it inside your room and have that against the PP instead, with the fan behind it and/or use vent piping as you please. As far as 'holding up' the fan.. why would the PP be supporting the fan's weight? It's running vertically so you simply need to make sure the fan/vent/filter is sealed against the PP but nothing more.. chains will hold them up. PP isn't fragile either.. once you have it in a large sheet like you see it's pretty durable and will hold up against the "leaning" weight, if that's what you're referring to. You could use a board instead if you'd like.. though I don't really see the reason for extra work. As I said the weight of the fan is supported by chains rooted in the closet's ceiling. As far as air circulation, simple physics -- hot air rises, cold air drops.. the hot air expelled from the room stays up there while the fresh colder air moves in from the bottom. I actually ended up connecting vent piping to my intake and running that vent pipe to a nearby window to allow the breeze to better reach the intake. You could alternatively run piping from the exhaust and move the exhaust further away from the closet. Either way, vent piping on the outside of the room or not, the air going into the intake is cooler and a 'different' air than that which is being pumped out. Part of it depends on the situation outside of the closet. In other words, if the closet is in a small poorly ventilated room, well yeah then the heat from the closet may build up in the room outside and your ventilation won't do much. You need to be able to ventilate the room outside of your ventilated closet.. i.e. open a window or somethin'! Did I claim my door was shitty? If you say so! ![]() Hope that helps.
