![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Damn. Thru this thread we have learned that quality water affects plants, pipes shouldn't affect quality, yes they should, no they shouldn't, you're ugly, yeah well you're stoopido, haha you cant even spell, ad nauseum. Damn, people, why all the flames? Snake, I agree with Dr. Funk. But first, is you're water really bad how? is it too hard, smelly, got little pcs of things in it? Also, what kind of garden are you planning/using? I mean, if it's soil you won't need as much water as 4 X 8 table for ebb & grow. I'd test the water, at least with a good ppm/ph meter, if you don't want it tested by the city. That will tell you what is up with it and whether you can use it. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | A good RO system is the way to go for sure ![]() For the price of a water test you can damn near buy a RO system. I like RO because I am in complete control of what goes in my plants. I add cal/mag up to 200 ppm and go from there with good results. Pipes definitely affect water, thats why they take the sitting test and the running test. This is a thread that could be very informative, STOP THE BLOODY FLAMING!!!!! Love, EMj

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | My .02 You have to be careful with bottled water because a) "Natural Spring Water" can have a high ppm b) bottled "Distilled" water has a very low ppm but the ph can be really off, and it can fluctuate, c) "Normal" bottled water (like Dansai, or Aquapure) is basiclly just ROed tap water and its ph can be way off, although the ppm is normally quite low. And all of these solutions can get pretty expensive in a hurry depending on how many plants you are growing. Straight tap water can be quite good except it often contains chlorine, and is frequently quite "hard", i.e. high Cal and Mag. Rain water can be very good, although if you live in an area that can get acid rain the PH can be as low as 4.4, and of course getting rain water in the winter can be a problem at times. Surface well water normally has a pretty good ph, but can have a very high ppm. Also it should be noted that this water can be quite soft (like rain water) and so adding Cal and Mag is generally a must. The best water, imo, is from an artesian well, but very few people have access to them. So, bottom line: Use whatever water is most readily available, and get it analyzed. Why? Because that is the only way to know what you have to add to get what you want. Most nute formulations are intended to be used with tap water, and they work pretty well. Personally, if I lived in a city that is what I would use. But I don't. Also, when you take your sample for analysis (and remember there is a proper procedure to take the sample), make sure you get both an organic and chemical analysis. You really want to know. OTOH - if you are willing to take your time and experiment, just try growing a couple of plants and see what happens. Peace.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Well he is calling for quality over cost..IMO put that money for seeing what is in your tap into an RO unit. Because if money isnt much of an issue you can suppliment anything you need into your super low ppm water. I have been running RO/DI filters for a long time now, for reef tanks. It does not have to be expensive, and in reality should never be. All these expensive RO units are good marketing and poppy colors. Granted...some are more efficient... But you can get a 100+ GPD filter on ebay for $100. I am in fact using one for myself...450ppm IN 0ppm OUT. On my hanna, calibrated, cleaned, and calibrated again...every which way. Just RO you will be in the 15ppm range, after 2 stage DI you are at 0. You will spend $80 in filters annually for a 6 stage. I like to start with a blank canvas, give the plant exactly what it needs (to my best ability). There surely has to be some variation to tap water. This is just how I see it, some people live and die by over priced brands. But if you got the money.....why not get a bling bling $600 filter hehe. Edit: Today my tap is 750ppm!!!! Yikes!!!

Ok, what? is your question- what system are you running, why do you want spring/distilled water? Is your water horrible? Buying water can work- but as has been explained, right here in this very thread, some spring water and all distilled water needs adjusting. Distilled water will often throw off PH- there is a huge swing becuase of no buffering capabilites in distilled water, nothing to slow down the nutes so to speak. Tell you what- tell us what you are growing, what system you want to use the water in, IRB, aero, fog, cloner, soil, DWC, Ebb&Grow/ Ebb and flow, whye you want to use store bought water, and We'll help you out. It's hard to give an answer to the question, "can I just buy a jug of water" cos the answer will always be, "yes, given that you have $1.00 you can buy a jug of water". ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Wal mart water is fine. Dont Know why Im calling it wal mart water either. Distilled water and R/o water should get some Cal Mag added. Since it contains virtually nothing, you gotta restock those micro nutes. | ||
