![]() | Ok now for another question regarding my new garden setup. I want to use the most quality water for my babies so how would you recommend achieving quality water? My regular tap water is really not the best quality coming out the old pipes that I have. Can I setup some sort of filtration system straight out of my fossit? Or is there some way I can fill a reservoir up and then treat my water? Saving money is ideal but best quality is more important. ![]()

Well there are a few ways you can get around this. Some people use standard HD reverse osmosis systems that install beneath your kitchen sink to the faucet. These may also take you a very, very long time to clean your water and to obtain a gallon or two. There are higher powered Reverse Osmosis systems (RO) that will cost you a bit more than the standard HD brands. But they seem to provide much more water, faster. Sufficient enough for gardening applications. You could invest in a few 5gallon bottles/jugs and take them to your local water store, or find a water vending machine outside a grocery store and fill them up, anywhere from 25-35 cents a gallon. I've even heard of people purchasing straight recyclable bottles of drinking water from the store and used them to hand feed plants in soil. Those are your options, basically. I have never used an RO system, but I understand they waste around 3 gallons of water for every 1 gallon of purified water you produce. Which could easily add up over time. Hope this helps

![]() ![]() | You could test your water for everything in it, post the results. Somebody will know if its ok to use. Pipes shouldnt determine water quality. Reverse osmosis machines take out almost everything, but are hundreds of dollars.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | pipes do effect water quality... DUH... if you have old pipes that have build ups inside then it will have a higher concetration of tds.... if the pipes are newer then there is less likely a chance of having built up dissolved solids..... PEACE.. Mod note: removed flame.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | My $100 6 stage RO/DI tests the same TDS as my buddies $600 6 stage. The hardware is all the same, its all in the filters. You also need the correct PSI to get the rated rejection, or get a booster pump. There is also waste water, something to think about if you are paying for water.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | A water test costs maybe $120 or so. You can ask the testing company to do a first draw water sample and a flushed water sample. One uses water right out of the pipe that's been sitting for several hours and the other after it's been running for a few minutes. I have well water that's pretty soft so I'm lucky. I let it run for a while before filling my res though. Hauling water is a giant pain in the ass. Municipal tap water can increase your chance of infecting your res with nasties. I had my water tested and am confident using it. Hauling water is a humongous pain in the keester. A water test is cheaper than a RO filter.

![]() ![]() | He didnt mention anything about them. If they are running without leaking they cant be that bad. Sending water in to get it tested isnt a good solution? Can you think of a better one than to post a worthless post telling me I dont know what I am talking about? Where was the first one? Because Im still waiting for you to prove me wrong. Somebodys mad there bud sucks. Sorry. Last edited by mr. hyde; 11-05-2009 at 08:42 PM..
