I was thinking about building a grow box in my closet when I move into an off campus apartment. I've never done any growing before and I'm trying to figure out how to build it properly first, then worry about the actual growing. I'd like to get a 400 watt HPS, and maybe some flouros on the sides, but I'm worried about the heat they all put out. From what I understand ventilation needs to carry the air from the chamber to either the attic or just outside. Since this is an apartment, the attic is not an option. Also having a big tube sticking out the window wouldn't be very smart. But, if it was sticking out in the room then of course it would stink up the place. I'm sure there are some closed system kind of things where it recycles and cools the air, but as a newbie I'm looking for something easy to build/get, and easy to use. It doesn't have to be very cheap, but can't be ridiculously expensive either.. If anyone has any ideas, or has a good way they already use, please tell me. Just.. please nothing that would require the skill of a carpenter/electrical engineer to assemble ![]() Thanks.

![]() | do a search on carbon scrubbers. one of these will allow you to vent into the room and control the smell at the same time. most are rather inexpensive to make, as a matter of fact i will be putting one together (given the time) tomorrow night. If i do i will post some pics of it and a list of what i used.

![]() | yeah, a little too hot ![]() If there was some unit you could buy that simply cooled the air, maybe you could just have it going right back into the box? I guess the plants would rather have fresh air rather than recycled, but.. then again there is probably something somewhere that cools AND filters the air. justawannabe when you put your contraption together give us the details, keeping in mind some of us have no idea what it exactly is, does, or how it is assembled ![]()

![]() | no problem oppo. Im trying to get to it tonight but life has gotten way to busy over the past week. I will be making it though so when i do i will keep pics and post on it with details. If your box is in a room and you are venting into that room 80 deg air, the room temp may rise 2-3 deg (to say 75-76deg) and would settle out in that range. opennig a window would help reduce room temps if they became a huge problem. Exhausting the air at the top of the box on 1 side and having intakes at the bottom of the box on the other will help insure that your box is always pulling in fresher cooler air.
