I think I've finally found a pretty good plan to grow 1-2 plants. I'm going to have a really big cooler turned on its side so its longer than it is higher. I have 4 18in floros along the top to get them through til they are about a foot or so. Then after that i can switch the cooler so it is taller then it is long, and have 2 floros on each side and another light like a HPS or something hanging in on the top. I will have a fan (only if i need it to use for tempurature) and/or ventalation leading some air out or in. Any tips on anything i should change? Thanks Split

![]() | i would suggest only using the tube fluoros for a couple weeks, rather than waiting for them to get to a foot. after two weeks i'd move them to side lighting and throw a HPS or EVL up top. Quote:
all else looks good to me. good luck. peace, trev.

![]() | This is just my plan for what is going to happen, probably within a few weeds. I don't really know whicih kind of light i need though. I was looking for a pretty powerful light like a HPS, but does that cause a lot of heat? I want a pretty powerful light but not cause too much heat. Any suggestions?

![]() | I personally use a 400w HPS with its own air-cooled hood (its venting system is isolated from the rest of the cabinet and uses an 80 cfm fan) in a 4x2x5 foot cab. The cab has another 80 cfm fan as outtake and a passive intake. I also use an oscillating fan inside the cab. When the light is on, temps can rise 10-15 deg. F. I imagine your cooler is smaller than my cabinet; it's gonna heat up even more, so you'll need GOOD venting to run an HPS and keep temps in the comfy 75-85 deg range Good luck with the grow!

![]() | My HPS will either be 70watt or 50watt. The 70 having 6200 lumens and the 50 having 4000. It matters if my lamp thing can hold 70 or not. I have a small fan and something that can take air out. Will that be enough ventaltion for it?

![]() | I really don't know. I found it at my friends and all that i know is that it hung a bulb which would be really good to have on top of the plant. I think it was a regular bulb in there. So does that mean it wouldn't hold an HPS bulb?

![]() ![]() | That's correct. HID lights (Metal Halide and High Pressure Sodium aka: MH and HPS) require special ballast and socket systems. The HPS in particular has to have an ignitor and such. Whatever light type and wattage of that light that you get, you must get the appropriate ballast and socket to go with it. This is why HID lights are more expensive. The bulbs make up only a fraction of their cost. It's the ballast that takes up the majority of the cost of HID lights.
