I think it would be dangerous to grow inside a fridge. If you had 300w total, that would be 3A, and with a nice metal chassis grounded to a concrete basement floor and a water bottle and bare feet will have you on the front page of your local paper.

I am pretty creative but I could not think of a way that you can retain the function of the fridge and grow inside safely. You will have to have ventilation, because all that insulation that keeps the cold in will keep your heat in, too.

Here is my stoned and only semi-safe idea:

Drill 2 3/8" holes (that you can later plug easily) near the bottom of the fridge. Use 12/3 cord from an electrical supply store and run it from the wall to the inside, where you would attach a HOSPITAL GRADE female connector, then a power strip that can handle 15A (You can use plastic zip-ties to secure your wiring)From the power strip you would run a 14/3 cord through a thermostatic switch out the other 3/8" hole and connect it to the fridge. The thermostat would be set where the actual refrigerator would kick on when the temp got above a certain range, say 80. Of course the built-in thermostat for a fridge is not made for 80, that is why you couldn't simply run the cooling system off that. And simply putting the fridge on a timer could yield erratic temp changes over the course of the day and would be damn near impossible to adjust every time the weather changed. In effect, the fridge will be regulating itself from within!! Use silicone to fill the gaps where the cords go through, and route the wiring in a fashion that will keep them clear of water. You can build faux wood walls inside out of 3/8 plywood and screw your flos to that with 3/8 wood screws. attach a bar across the top of your wood walls to hang the HPS on. (The wood walls will also help keep your interior from melting) Line the remaining exposed walls with mylar or dull foil and start growin'.

You might need to supplement the air inside or open it for a nice breath a few times a day, but it should hold in odors. Put baking soda in the door, might help some??

Actually, this sounds interesting. I might look for a large locking chest freezer now...

The doc is out.

Good info Doc,
I have a fridge setup. very similar only mine was inoperable. I have a 150W HPS. I used the same hole in the back that the original wiring was... I drilled 1/2 inch holes at the top in a 6 inch circle with a 64CFM exhaust. Fresh air is obtained from the bottom back where i have about 20 1/2 inch holes. I have a 120V prewired thermostat set to about 80 degrees. When the temp gets hot (3-4 degrees differential the exhaust fan and a 4 inch desk fan are controlled by the thermostat. The exhaust sucks new air from the bottom (fridge is airtite)creating vaccum. The desk fan blows through the leaves and all is honky dorrey. This is my first grow... I am hoping for the best.
