Heres my problem, I just got done with my first grow {outdoors} and my plants were very small with a small yeild. The reason my plants were so small is that i only gave them about 4-5 hours direct sunlight everyday, due to securty risks with neighbors. Now ive decided to do an indoor grow, i have a 150w hps and the only place i can feel safe to grow is inside my attic. I live in southern U.S., Texas to be exact and It gets HOT here. avg temp in the summer is around 85-90 on a clear day. So heres my problem, I want to grow in my attic and im sure heat will reach the 110's easily inside the attic so i need to build a grow area and somehow keep it cool. I cant re-route and air ducts since there isnt any close to the attic. How can i keep it cool inside my grow area? anyone have any ideaS? | ||

you can buy a fan at walmart or lowes or hg, whatever that has climate controls, i know the one at walmart is like 30 bucks and you can reverse the fan on one blower, for instance you can blow in cool air with one, and the other will suck out the hotter air, or just use both blowers to blow in cool air.. the coldest the air can get is like 52 degrees on the digital gage, and if temps get to 110, you could set it pretty low cause with the added heat of you hps... try it, i set up a simple double blowing fan in my grow chamber, old dresser, one with-out digital control, and the temp dropped from 91 degrees to 80 in a matter of 10 minutes, just think what a fan will do when you can control the climate.. also remember the hot air rises, so if you do install a fan, keep it low, so the air will move up through your beauties.... bud don't freeze them out, too much cold, and then hot will cause un needed stress and will see sufficient loss in your yield... anyhow, good luck.... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | i think the temp will reach 110s inside your attic without even plugging in the lamp. i think the only way to consider growing in that kind of space would be sealing off a growing area and air conditioning it :-/ €0.02

you need some cold air up there, and a card board box is made of paper, this is a insulator, look for fans with a digital timer so you can lower the temp within the grow space. also, i like the idea of a window unit, if you have a window in your attic, well seee good luck fantasmo out

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | you really should consider an attic vent fan. Realisticly, this is one of very few options you have. (besides a/c, etc.) Are the attic vents far up, off the ground? and do normal pedestrian traffic come near that part(s) of the house?

![]() | you might consider putting larg fans on the attic vents, air conditioning, or building a stealth cab. for your closet, then vent to your attic. in you attic, you would have to have a box fan blowing directly on your girls

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | if the ambient temperature goes that high, then in an attic any amount of fans are just going to blow hot air about. really need to think about air conditioning, or mist cooling? if you have low humidity it could be an option.

my garage was in the high 90's. all fans did was blow hot air on my plants, and with a space as large as an attic the only real option is an attic fan or small a/c unit. your best bet is probably the vent fan, helluva lot cheaper to run. with my light on in my box the temps got above 110 F, even with exhaust/intake fans. i bought a small window mounted a/c unit, with the light on temps dont go above 82. its on the same timer as the light so it just turns off with the light so it doesnt freeze the plants. make sure you get one large enough for the space, your basically going to be a/c'ing everything unless you make the whole space air tight. during my veg period, the unit didnt turn off for over a month.,.,.,my elec bill went up almost $200 be careful there ![]()
