![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | hempman feel free to copy this one all you want, that is, of course, why this post is here. If you have questions feel free to ask. I have the sources for all the components if at anytime you need that kind of information. By the way if I had it to over again, which I hope to in a bit larger version, I would insulate with two 3/4" layers of the rigid foam insulation. I didn't realize how helpful the insulation would be until I started using the box. Good growing to you too.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | A little update. We have some very cold temps here. THe room I draw the air for my grow box from had the heat cut off so temp plunged in the grow box and I panicked. I put a ceramic heater in the box and scorched two of the four beauties I had growing. Unfortunately I had just started flowering so I may end up with all males due to stress. Time will tell. Rule One: Don't panic and do stupid stuff. Rule Two: Never put a heater of any kind in an enclosed space.

Hello naturall_mystic, Wanted to thank you for posting. I also utilize the attic and the rigid foam insulation definitely sounds like something I can use, and did not know was out there. Can you get it at Home Depot? Good luck getting the temperatures under control. I am fighting that one also. All the best, Mary

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | kongDewO Thanks. I wish I could have mad mine taller but if I did it would stick out of the roof. Then I would have neighbors asking questions and I would need shingles and a ladder and... Flowering began last week. We had a cold snap and I neglected to turn the heat on in the room that is the source for the air for the box. Temps got pretty chilly and I paniced. I put a small ceramic heater and scorched three of the four plants. Lesson learned, the plants seem alright less a few leaves. Lady_Mary The rigid insulation did come from the Home de Pot. If I had this box to do again I would use two layers og the 3/4" inch rigid foam. I am heading over to the Home de Pot soon to buy a couple of sheets to secure to the outside of the box. It seems to me the more stable you can keep your box temps the better. I also took that ceramic heater and made a metal box for it with a 6" duct connector just in case I need it. I doubt I will be cutting the heat off to the sair source room anytime soon though. Thanks for your post. I am going to modify the light adjustment mechanism and a couple of other things in the near future. I will post those updates when they are done.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | First, I love you attention to detail, but I have thought of a few things that might be a problem. 1. I am assuming that this is winter time for you and as such you are getting cooler temps which is great. When summer time comes and your grow is still in the attic on a 90 degree day your box will be surrounded by 105+ temps. Ever thought about venting your light directly. It will be a problem. Don't let the heat radiation out of the light enclosure and you can drop temp by 10 to 15 degrees. This might entail buying another small fan just for the light, but it will be well worth it. 2. Can you make your box air tight, or close? If so you can add CO2 and really see some improvement. Regulate your fan to turn on at a max temp like 82. In between you juice the air in the box with CO2. CO2 provides a linear relationship to growth vs. concentration. Also you only have to add CO2 during the lights on phase. 3. Ever thought of using a working fridge for you next grow? Put a different thermostat in the fridge set to 80 or something instead of 45. Make your light airtight and vent as suggested above. Now you have an airtight compartment with temperature control that looks and works like a fridge. Just a thought. These are just thoughts that might help out. Love to see more pics!

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Dig, Thanks for visiting and sharing your thoughts. I have run the box in the summer time with the attic temps around 120F The box temps top out about 85F. You may have missed this but the source of the air that enters the box comes from a living area in my house, so it is air conditioned. Cold was a problem for a day when I neglected to turn the heat on in the room the air source came from. I learned a good lesson there. I have a passive intake and an active exhaust on my grow box, evident by the pictures, which means the enclosed light hood doesn't actually heat the grow area. So that isn't a problem either. As much as I would like to try CO2 I feel for my needs the cost of a professional system really isn't justified and the mantinance of a do it yourself system isn't desired. It looks like the yeild that this grow box can provide is adequate for an occasional user like me. I do intend to try Aero after I get a couple of more grows under my belt, that may punch up yeilds a bit, but really I don't need a lot more yield. You had a good there though. I don't have room for a fridge in my attic. If I did I would have made my grow box taller to begin with. I am sure you noticed one of my requirements for this grow box was that it would be easy to deconstruct. Obviously a refridgerator doesn't meet this criteria. Good luck to you and good growing.
