BUZZMOBILE WROTE MOST OF THIS: Trichomes start out clear. As ripening progresses the trichomes turn milky, cloudy. Then they start to turn amber (too late IMO). I harvest mine when the clear to cloudy ratio is about 50%, sometimes more . Keep an eye on the trichomes and they will let you know when to harvest. Percentage of pistils turning color is another gauge of ripeness that many folks use. I prefer to look at the trichs with the handy dandy Radio Shack Illuminated Microscope. Once trichomes start turning from clear to cloudy there is about a 7-10 window where some percentage of trichs are turning from clear to cloudy. Then the amber begins to set in and that is about two weeks after the first clear to cloudy change - give or take a day or three. Take snippets from several buds from different areas of the plant. You get a good idea of the average change of trichs that way. As you have realized from your sample, cloudy trichomes do not lie. The harvest period is wide enough to accommodate variations in ripeness on the plant. Also when it is time to harvest, I cut the whole plant at once. Some folks will harvest individual buds as each one ripens. I'm not that particular.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Thanks for stopping by Farmer4321 Well folks the grow is officailly over. I have started to get my materials together to make modifications to the box. Before we go into what changes I am making and why what say we all enjoy a little eye candy. The last picture of the ladies growing... Here is the trimming of the bud... Here is the drying screen inside the grow box.... And here is a pic of a nice bud.... When the cure is over I will do a weigh in. I can tell you right now this grow has provided more bud than I will be able to use for a long time, not a bad thing but it does stress to me that the time and effort put into a quality grow is worth the effort and one heck of a lot of fun.

![]() | Right on Naturall! I've been reading and reading and more reading all over this fine site. I always wanted to do the attic thing and presto..an attic and grow box thread. I now know what I'm building during my time off. I had ideas of using 1000w, however looking at your buds and 400w, I think 400w is the way to go and keep heat down. Do you think 400w is the max, or would you think a higher wattage would work? I read earlier where you mentioned an aero setup. Are you going to give that a try? I think I will do the soil run first to get the grow box experience and then go for the aero setup. Meridian

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Meridian It feels great to know this thread is helpful to you. First, to answer your questions..400 watts is plenty of light for this cabinet. Thats 66 watts per square foot. A 1000 watt light (166 watts per square foot) would be more heat than I would want to deal with in the spring, summer, and fall and more light than the plants could stand. For the time being I have nixed the idea of going aero or even hydro. If there was a mishap, which is likely considering an aero or hydro setup requires hose connections, pumps etc that can leak, I would have a huge mess on my hands that I would rather not have to fool with. Those setups also require a bit more maintinance than soil. So I feel soil is better suited to me. You are smart to learn to grow first. This first grow was with bag seed rather than expensive genetics. It pays to crawl before walking. And as you know read, read, read. I will be posting the grow box modifications soon and that will be the end of this thread. You may want to see what those are before building your box, I have learned a bit since the beginning of this thread. Hey IonAccel I thought that was pretty funny stuff too. I did try to be nice about it though. seven, thanks for the kind words. The weigh in will be next week as well as box mods.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Now who else would have thought to put in a drying screen? Great idea! I don't see how you can upgrade this box, so I'll be tuned in for sure for your mods. ![]() Cheers, ![]() Bubba Lou
