Pictures! is my construction good?
permalink

Hello weed heads!

I've just decided to try growing marijuana in my closet..
I went to wallmarts and bought some stuff:

Foil Paper
Desk Lamp
Foil containers
and took some soil from outside my apartment were some plants are grown..

Anyway, here are the pictures so far.. tell me any tips that might be useful for a newbie..

I've grown lots of plants before, and the most difficult part is getting the root out of the seed.. after that, everything is easy to me..

Thanks in advance.. enjoy the pics..

Hey!
Thanks for welcoming me to HC.com

anyway, I'm just trying to warm up the soil and get out any extra water in it (it rained a few days ago)

I will plant some seeds in the container and wait till they grow up a little, so I can put them in bigger ones and add some fertelizers and use more equipment like a fan and more lights..

I'm reading the Grow guide now.. so,

Any tips are welcome..

first you shoud get rid of that light or at least put a compact floro in there, second you should shell out the 12 bucks for potting soil. (get it POTting soil). then you will be ready to grow.

Old DuffMan, in his first post is already shelling out the good advice.(I'm gonna promote him! )

Toss that bulb because incandescent won't grow your plants.

His suggestion for compact flos has merit too, either that or regular flos or HID, which you'll learn about in the grow guide.

I wouldn't use that soil either. If you do, bake it or microwave it before planting. All in all, read the grow guide now.

Holy crap 12 bucks for potting soil ....Your getting ripped ! i pay 2.47 for a bag of potting soil and this time i tried sphagnum moss to mix with it and it cost 4.50 . Regaurdless I believe this is a good idea Rema.
A you will read in the grow guide , foil is not the best way to reflect your light either. Goto walmart and look in the sporting goods section where the camping stuff is and look for a mylar emergency blanket . This also will run about 2 dollars . The only thing that desk lamp will do ( unless there is a compact flouro in the light ) will heat up your room. If there is a compact flouro in it , it will only be good to get the seedling to pop out of the soil , then your gonna need more lumens.

it looks like a small compact halogen lamp to me. And yeah 12$ for potting soil is a bit high, i pay 2$ canadian for a 15L bag of premier potting soil.

the light our noob friend here is using is rated at 40 watts (halogen type E17 S11)
It might produce a fair amout of heat, a fairly intense light and believe it or not probably wouldn't hurt until young padiwan springs for some real lighting.(first week or so) And I know I'll catch some flak for even reccommending a halogen, but if that's all you got....
So Recommendations:
1.Ditch the soil and go for the gold, FoxFarms Ocean Forest.
2.Then purchase Compact Florescent(CF), Metal Halide, or High Pressure Sodium(HPS) light for the rest of the grow.
While halogens might be OK for getting started they can be harmful if too close to the the seedling, and fry it it in mere minutes. Aside from that they run up the utility bill, are inefficient as all getout, make great space heaters, blah, blah, blah. Take from some who has fried a grow with halogens....1,000 watts to be precise
3. Hope you have drainage holes in those aluminum planters, if not you'll wind up drowning those seedlings.
4. Remove the foil from the light, the white reflector inside should be sufficient to direct the light where its needed.
5. Consider getting fired clay pots, plastic, or ceramic containers, the aluminum foil containers just seems wrong. Plant tray for catching excess water. Besides that consider this one: gallon for each foot of growth... 1 square foot for each plant minimum
6. Read the grow guide about ten times more than your favorite ghurlie mag, plan about ten times more than that, don't get greedy and plant more seeds and don't expect a megayeild on the first try. Then repeat step 6 until you're doing this in your sleep.
7. Don't tell anyone (except for the folks on this website)
8. Next time try germinating the seeds using the paper towel method.
8.1 purchase water AND soil pH test kits from garden supply store
9. start a grow journal and re-read the grow guide
9.2 Stick around it gets better
10. Welcome to HC.com, rema

BTW it's a common myth that I've never turbo-posted

..... can we get over the price of...POTTING SOIL...he might of been including gas money and maybe he lives 60 miles ot of a major town with...potting soil...and has to drive far away and maybe he has a 1966 chevy 3/4 ton w/ a 4-barrel carb that gets 8 miles to the gallon! so i could see why a bag of soil costs him 12 dollars.
