![]() | At the end of the summer I am thinking of starting a new grow in a fully enclosed grow room. I have a grow on at the moment and realise the complications of having an HPS glowing in the corner of your room i.e. triple curtains to avoid any light escaping outside, and I have had to seal around the door frame as it is so bright! Also I can't really use my room which is big and so it's quite an inconvenience. So next grow I'm thinking of making a 4'x4' grow room which is around 6-7' high! The problem is I have a 600W HPS and with that sort of wattage light a lot of heat is being generated! Obviosly strong venting will be needed in an enclosed area like this and I was wondering what sort of intake / exhaust fans would be best to use! The light escaping can be sorted out by using black pipes with a 90° or greater bend in them I guess. Would an air cooled hood for the light be just as good? Do I need extra exhaust fans as well?? Thanks sk!

![]() | For 600w our best bet as,LB told me in a previous incarnation is a 5` by 3` space with 15 plants, I did 12 in 3 rows of 4 in pots and they were fine getting around 9000 lumens per plant which is more than enough. I use a extractor inline fan which sucks out 160cubic wotsits per hour, again ample, with a blow fan on the ladies to move the air around. have a ood 1 leaf

![]() ![]() | Yeah, Id say get or build an air cooled hood. From what Ive read, even mild skills can build one. Other than that, have a fan blowing directly on the bulb, an oscillating fan on the grow, and a large, continuously running exhaust. Oh, and youll need an intake fan or opening down low. Smokin

Yeah I was thinking about an easy DIY air-cooled hood (glass under bulb and fan blowing air out). 5'x3' does sound like a good size, it would be easier to reach the plants at the back of the graden too, also good in terms of square feet and number of plants (1 per ft² rule), but how did you manage to get 9000 lumens per square foot if the light only puts out 90,000 lumens? 90,000 / 15 = 6000 lumens per ft². Did you have extra side lighting? What was the yield and what was your med.? HYdro, Aero, or soil?? Thanks again for the input!

![]() | Yes it is 6000 lumens, my stoned mistake I used 10L pots in saucers and the medium I used was Greenmix No1 mixed 50\50 with perlite. They where watered from the bottom using Growth Tec. Europonic grow and bloom ferts. The average yeild per plant was 2.5 oz per dried buds per plant. It was my first hydro crop and the yeild impresed me. The plants where from a hotch potch of clones, Big Bud, Northen Lights and some strange crosses between those two and Juicy Fruit.Leaf#2

![]() | Dude, definately go for the air cooled hood in such a small enclosed space. I had a room about that size a while ago. Not completely enclosed but about as hard to exchange air. The air cooled hood will move most of the heat (get the tempered glass cover too) right out of your garden with one small squirel cage fan (if you are still using the one light). Try to make the exhaust line as short a distance from the fan (liniar ft) as it is a tax on the fan the farther you have to draw the air. Grow!

I think I will invest in an air cooled hood as once the whole lot is enclosed the lumens will go up consoderably compared to at the moment. Maybe a gap all the way around the bottom for passive intake (1' high should do easily), and then have a 7-9" oscillating fan for movement! Cheers guys!
