Today I start my new garden 10/01/06. Location: Basement Type: Green house G/H size: 4'x6'x5' Growing medium: Hydroponics / rockwool rounds System type: Gully - 6 Plants Resivoure size: 12 gal. System size: 15 gal. +/- Lighting: 1 - 400 W MH - 4 - 4' - 2 bulb, 80W floes More details later. Plants- Roman Tomatos, red and green lettice, acorn squash cucumber and spinich. Germination started today, rockwool cubes soaking in pH adjusted water @ 6. The green house ![]() Air intake and exaust. The big silver thing is an activated carbon filter, DIY of course. Something they left . The filter is sitting in an old subwoffer box. The top of the filter has a 6" inline fan and inside the box is a 3 speed Stanly blower on low connected to the T stat in the center of the grow area on the ledge. Both fans are contrled by relay DPDT-N/O. Temps below 80 deg F the 6" fan is on and the blower is off and above 80 deg F the blower is on and 6" fan is off. The fresh air intake is through the floor of the green house through 12 - 2" holes spaced evenly across the floor on both sides of the growing tube. There are 3 - 10" x 16" filters. It took a bit to get that correct. The exaust air is vented directly into the basement out of the grow room area. This has 1 big advanntage, it helps heat my basement. ![]() The resivoure. 12 gal. under the bed storage bin. located directly below the exaust fan. The pump is 120 gph if I remembe right. Connected to the gully tube via a 3' piece of flexable tube to 1/2" cpvc into the gully, then drains back to the res via a 1" pvc drain. ![]() Input and drain. ![]() The gully tube. this is a 6' 4x4 plastic fence post coverd with metal tape to minimize light to the roots. The 6 plant holders are 1-1/2 pvc pipe connections threded into the tube. The 1/2" cpvc is conected to another peice of cpvc the runs the length of the gully at the top with 12 1/32 holes drilled in it on eithor side of the plant holders. this provides for aeration and fresh neutrients directly to the plants. the drain is positioned 2-1/2" from the bottom of the tube , maintaining aprox. 2 gal at all times in the tube. Yes that is the modified humidifyer holds RH at 50% with lights and fans on. ![]() Germination and seedling frige. This didn't fit in the van eithor . 1 - 2' grow lux 25W. exaust fan. Here we have the seeds soaking in water and the rock wool cubes pH adjusting. ![]() Located behing the crisper control where the fan used to be is the timer that controls the veging lights. Set at 16/8- on/ off. Next to the timer to the right are 2 light switches for manual control of both sets of lights. The Freezer light is eithor on or off. ![]() Veritation area. 4 - 150 w compact flourecents, temp sensor for fan control, set at 80 deg. this also controls the Temp. in the freezer to help with germination of seeds. The crisper area is the fresh air intake. 3 - 4" holes covered with carbon filters to minimize dust and un wanted bugs. ( spiders) ![]() Pretty cool if you ask me. Building all of this was a lot of fun ,but I'm not finished yet. Total automation is my goal. This will come a piece at a time. There you go. Sorry no buds for this one, I just love hygroponics. I did learn a lesson too. I never got charged so Y push it.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Thanks. It took me almost a year to get it all back together. I took my time. The next simple project is to run water to the humidifyer via a float vaulve, I hate filling it, and adding a resivour drain to the sump pump in the room directly from the gully tube to ensure I remove all the depleted nutrient solution. This will make changing out the nutriants simple and no mess. I'll post some pics of the garden in the tiki lounge. Retired

Hello All. Just wanted to say Thanks for the kudos, glad you like it. This is a much smaller project I am finishing up while I wait for the starts, I thought I would show you. Your basic Coleman cooler gone grow reservoir. This is the back shot with power box for the 2 pumps, dishwasher flow switch (water inlet) and float switch. I like recycling, Top off control. Right now it is set up to just feed off of the House water, not pH adjusted. Both pumps will be switched, 1 for the drain and 1 for constant circulation to the plants. The black box is the air pump ( to loud so I'm not going to use it). new air pump only. for now there are 2-3" net pots located in the center. ![]() Inside of the lid. the PVC is for the modified float switch. that took a little work. The water line is just below all of the wires in the back. ![]() The inside. water inlet to the left, air stone center, circulation pump back and drain pump right, the drain was already there .![]() The top. the float switch will be covered. and the top cleaned again. It got a little dirty during construction. ![]() Your basic DWC set up. My Christmas bonus is the start of the automation process. I'm going to start with the TDS set up. pump, sensor and computer program. Not sure what I will grow in this one .Retired
