Comp power supplies DC 12 volt......

can a computer power supply power somthing with these specs?

Qmax - 71
27°C
(w.)

Imax - 7.4
27°C
(a.)

Vmax - 14.7
27°C
(v.)

my power supplies ones a 250w others a 420 w they have the 5 v and 12v and there both rated difffrerent "A" 9, 23, 18, 40 and those are all higher than my specs. plus the "w" ratting is also higher. does this make a ddifference? am i remembering correctly the amps can pack a punch? or cuz its DC thats diff?
i dunno if anyone can help me with my Volts DC AMPS WATTS problems that would be great. id hate to fry shit including my house!!
i know radio shack has those 1.5 - 12v DC adapters maybe that would work better?

its not jibber jabba just maybe more info than you needed its a peltier plate...
71 - watts max
7.4 amps max
14.7 volts max

i did some reading
ok so if i understand this correctly
p= power or watts
i = current or amps
v = volts

p = iv from how stuff works......

so if that holds true and i want to stay below my max something like a 12 v DC adapter with 5 amps should be ok? so if i rig a cell phone charger or seomthing else DC with those specs that will work?

That's the sign of a truly desperate man!

My knowledge and advice comes from the 'a little knowledge' category, so it could be a very dangerous thing. I would be reticent to use the comp power supply, as it seems like a bit of overkill, not to mention a lot of power draw that is just turning into heat.

I'd be more apt to use the 12v power supplies you can find at (shudder) Radio Shack or other places. I've seen them with switchable settings as well, which might allow to you vary the speed of the fan.

Hope this advice tides you over until someone more knowledgable comes along.

skip - thanks for the advice...sometimes common sense is just as good!

ya overkill seems to be the right word....im kinda going over kill on everything this grow(23k lumens per sq foot). however i think this is one area i shouldnt go over board on.

seeing how p = iv

im just going to have to find soemthing that will have the same output specs that may device can handle. or wait till i can find someone who can answer all my watts and amps questions about the powersupply.

I wish i knew dmore about reisitors and whatnot.

I was looking on a website and the specs they hve for there power supplies (one ment for this device) and tehre all much much lower than this one so taht tends to tell me im going to have to find something else. oh well i can still use it to power the 3 comp fans.

off to radio shack....that gives me the shudders

12vdc power supply will work on a device rated at 14.7vdc max

the power supply must be rated to supply the divice with amps it needs

example, a car battery, "12vdc 600amps" works to power a tail lite "12vdc 2 amps"

yes your power supply will work

what are you running, are you fuseing it?

those specs actually had a ton of info i just didnt realize it.

Qmax and Vmax etc all have some hefty definitions that explained it all to me well i needed a lil help but itsy clairified that perfectly

the watts i was looking at wasnt how much it could it handle it was how much it could transfer

like that? i know its pretty crude haha. but the fuses have two tips, one wire to each tip?

what would my advantages be of having a fuse?
