With These Dimensions - 250w or 400w HPS?
permalink

Hi All.

In your experience, with these dimensions, what wattage would you use?

I've got a tiny bit more than a 3ft footprint.
36"x16"x70"

this is a metal two-door cabinet with a lock, and I'd like to set it up primarly as a flower box.

With proper ventilation, can I sneak in a 400w light? I'd like to invest in a 400w digital ballast.

Perhaps I should just find a new grow cabinet?

thanks for any feedback!

With enough ventilation, a 400 watt light would be nice in that cab. You'll def need a cooltube

peace

That's good to hear!

Would a Cool Breeze 6" Reflector count as a "Cool Tube"?

Heya eth..

The recommended minimum light level is 50W per square foot.. so with your 3ft area.. a 250 would be fine.. and generate more than enough heat to deal with.

But.. if you can get it ventilated well enough.. the 400 would kickass in that area.

You'd have to cooltube it also.. because you may have height issues unless you flower small.

well with a 400w hps bulb your looking at 16,000 +lumens per sq foot.......so thats prolly a lil overkill for that much space...if you run c02 inconjunction...you could prolly get more out of it..

a 250w HPS would give you like 9,000+ lumens per sq foot(plenty of light) and much less heat and much less noise since you wouldnt as large of a fan. so this would be cheaper and stealthier. and im sure you could get some AMAZING looking nugs from it.

now on the otherhand if you ever plan on expanding (I know i always seem to tweak things hahah) the 400w in the long run might be a better choice. but it will definatly heat thigns up a bit so a nice fan and a cool tube will be needed or a vented hood(but are bulky and expensive for cabs, i prefer cool tubes)
and also the 400w will penetrate the canopy better.....

so id say go for the 250w, if you lookin to invest and possibly expand in the future maybe get the 400w or both
