LST yield/time question, old thread started anew.

Hi All,

found this thread at rollitup.org, where it was re-printed from indoormarijuanaseeds.com.

It's just a basic form of very intensive LST. How To LST (Low Stress Training) - Marijuana Growing (http://www.rollitup.org/indoor-growing/6834-how-lst-low-stress-training.html)
It says in the post the first # is the step, the second is the pot size.

Given that it looks about like 10" is the diameter of my 3 gallon hempys, I think I could do this no problem. Lot of work, but worth it?

Given that you are training the plant around a 10" circle, it seems it would be about 30" tall otherwise.

So, question is, would it take roughly the same time to grow around a 30 inch circumference as it would to grow 30" tall?

Would you greatly increase yield, or just get 6 or 7 small colas weighing the same as 1 big one?

The post says to top the plant when it gets back to the main stem....in other words, you're drawing a circle, when you meet where you started, top and stop it growing around the circle, just let the side branches grow up to the light.

Could you also FIM it, or will topping and stopping the main stem make the small side branches grow that much taller?

Also, would it stretch as much as a regular plant in flower? Meaning, would the branches still stretch the same percentage as the top would have, 8" tall branch turning into a 3 foot tall flower of power?

Thanks for your help. I would ask over at Rollitup, but the thread started two years ago and then degenerated into name-calling in a big way. Plus all the recent posts seem to be, "Nice, ill try it !"

Your help is welcome.

i have been researching all of the different methods of low stress training and have seen some amazing pictures. one of the pictures/method that intrigued me the most is the following picture....

http://www.indoormarijuanaseeds.com/images/low-stress-training.jpg

has anyone actually grown using this exact method? it would seem to me that you might end up with a sick plant due to the foliage being so close to the ground. could this method not lead to some type of rot or fungus.

anyone have any thoughts, input, or pics?

*edit*

when i say "so close to the ground" i am actually referring to the growing medium, not the physical/actual ground

Hi guys PipeWorks helped this newbie out and linked me to myMUSICveins LST training thread. After reading it I felt empowered to try it out. The following picture is one of my gals bent over taking in some rays. I think one of the addictive things about training is the little hints of piny whiffs from delicious sap... =)---- *drool*

gravity ScrOG?

I am a novice at this and am asking for advice.
4 Norther-Lights - Very thick stems, dense foliage, short vertical distance between nodes
The stems are brittle not flexible so I have stopped trying to bend the stems by force.
I have topped or cut off the new growth on each plant two times to force side shoots.
I have placed an iron barbecue grill grate on the top of three plants and am letting gravity (the weight of the grate), convince the plants to spread out and stay short during the vegg cycle.
The plants are about 7 weeks old and 6 inches tall, and so dense that it is hard to even see the stems. They are under a 400w HPS 24 hours a day and look very strong.
The 4th plant is only 3 weeks old and has three nodes. All 4 plants have been transplanted into large pots.

None of the plants have started forming staggered stems yet, they are all still growing two at a time, that is, two branches at each node, so I assume that I can't switch the lighting to 12 hours on and 12 off yet??

Does this sound like a worthwhile experiment? Any ideas? I ask because all 4 plants are in a 2 foot by 4 foot closet with only 5 feet as the highest that I can raise the light.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions:)

when is the best time to top your plants? also, will topping halt vertical growth completely or just slow it down? also, will side more side branches appear or will the existing side branches just become stronger and produce more bud? thanks ahead of time.

I have a pair of Purple #1 Fem that I put into flower at 14+22". Within 10 days they were 28+41" and I saw a 6' coming if I didn't do something. I've never seen growth like this - must be my 65deg nights and 75deg days this time of year. I'm growing in a DarkRoom 150 with a 600W in a CoolTube so I only have about 5' of room.

As you can see, I bent her over and it snapped a little; she weeped a few drops of sweet sap at the break (I had to taste it) and within a day a scab had formed and she was pointing back up and pulling against her string restraint. I even tucked one of the other side branches under a cross branch so about 5 branches are now on the same side of the plant as the cola juts out.

The cola has grow another foot since I bent her over and I must say, is pretty cool looking. I wonder what will happen when there's a couple Os of dank (I'm an optimist) hanging out there. Oh well, she's not a frigging house plant - chop that saggy bitch down!

The weights are just enough force to keep the side branches down. I don't want the branches taller then the cola. Amd you can see where I pushed the branch under another to gently force it to that side without breaking it. It took less then a day to point up the light, which I can keep less than 6" away from the colas.

Here she is with her sister at 15days - they're both 42". See how closely I can fit the colas under the CoolTube.

Anybody ever grow Purple #1? What gets purple, and when? :) My lower leaves are getting a bit darker, and if I use my imagination they have a purple tint. I want purple buds!

Party on! :bong:

Cutting secondary branches?

Hey everyone,

I have been wondering about this for the past month. Today marks day 58 of flower. My girls are currently 47 inches tall with a 250 HPS light 8-9 inches above them. While the main colas are all about evenly tall, the secondary shoots only reach up to 25 inches. Should I cut these bottom shoots that are down low to promote more development on the upper shoots? I am currently planning on cutting them at day 84, but this is all up to how fast they mature.
