I guess this belongs here. I find it appealing that a plant knows night and day to a different degree than others. Do other plants have male or female organs? My main question though is, is there anything else that flowers according to the light schedule? | ||

I took both biology & hoticulture last year. Your first question was about plants reacting to light schedules to determine flowering/budding. Some plants do this, others dont. some use other climate indicators, such as first rain, first frost, temperature above certain level. The list of what triggers plants to do specific things is probably as long as there are different types of plants... But, to answer your question, is not unique in how it reacts to light schedules. The second question was do other plants have male and female parts. The answer is yes, all plants have male and female "parts". In the case of floweing plants (such as ), the female part is the "pistil" and the male part is the "stamen" (pronounced stay-men). Some plants, such as , have distinct male and female varieties. some examples of very different plants that have male and female varieties are Sago Palms (Cyacas revoluta) and Ginkgo trees (Ginkgo biloba). Others have both the male and female organs on the same plant, making them unisex.I hope this is a sufficent intro to plants and answers your questions. If you really want to get into it, plant adaptations are amazingly interesting if you look closely enough and there is a huge amount of information available. Just for example, coconuts are "designed" to fall from the tree, float accross an ocean, land on the shore of another island, and propogate... talk about a long shot! Best of luck in your future endevors,
