mr hyde's post to the somni forum has all the info youd need. lighting is pretty much the same as growing mj. use lots of 40w cfl or 400hp etc. they say since poppi flower in the summer you can flower them off MH instead of needing hps like mj does. but i see people using both mh and hps's. the choice is yours.

I am considering growing a small field of poppies this year, and wondered where to get seeds, what type of poppie is needed, and how much care the plants need. Any knowledge relating to poppie plant growth held by anyone would be appreciated.

Thanks alot.

Poppies are legal and can be bought from many sources. Some places offer low opiate content poppies They are used as float decorations in parades and i have a flower bed full of them now. I bought seeds through Greendealer but a trip to any local floerist may be easier.

I grew poppies outdoors many times. I bought my seeds from Wal-mart, and were actually extremely good. They were the "hens and chicken" variety, which is suppose to have one of the highest contents of Opium latex. You can tell if they are opium producing poppies quite easily. If the stems are smooth, they are Opium poppies, if they have lil hairs all over the stem, it won't contain opium. They are super easy to grow and only takes about 3-4 months, plus you can grow 2 crops a year, one in spring and one in fall. Never tried growing them indoors tho. Also, plant the seeds where they are going to permenently stay, transplanting them is a bitch. As for the laws, its kinda clouded. I think you would be fine growing them, but once you score the pods to get the latex, it is ABSOLUTLY illegal.

Yes,They are completly legal to have seeds, and to grow. Also I have done some reading on poppies and it would seem that all variety (sp) are active, but not all are the same strenght.Meaning its hard to find actual variety used to make "H",but all others may have just a micro amount of "active ingredent"
